Eden gasps as her body jolts up in her bed.

Her chest heaves as the images of the nightmare she just escaped from flash through her mind.

The girl's dreams for the past few months had been plagued with the starcourt mall.

More specifically the large fleshy monster that killed her best friend Billy Hargrove.

She and Billy had become friends shortly after he moved to Hawkins. 

It was such an unexpected friendship but after Billy saved Eden at a Halloween party they got closer.

They had talked more outside of school. Billy had his reputation to uphold and didn't want to be seen talking to the loner Eden Walker. 

But after he witnessed her getting beat up and bullied he swore he would never leave her side.

And he kept to that.

The pair became inseparable. They bonded over their trauma with their parents, their shared taste in music and overall their personalities. 

No one knew Billy Hargrove as well as Eden Walker.

And no one knew Eden Walker as well as Billy Hargrove.

But that didn't last long.

Somehow the boy got infected by the mind flare and ended up dying on July 4th, 1985.

Even before his death, he had distanced himself from Eden. The mind flare didn't give a shit about promises or people and used Billy like a puppet.

Eden swore she would never get close to anyone after that.

Her other closest friend Jonathon Byers had moved away so she was left with no one.

The other people she went through the things with the past few years she didn't speak to anymore. 

The girl distanced herself from everyone after the death of Billy.

Sighing the girl reluctantly pulls herself out from under her covers.

 She sits on the edge of her bed for a moment, wanting to relish in the calm of the morning sun for at least a minute longer before having to live out the day.

Days to the girl seemed futile and cynical. 

She couldn't see the point of them anymore.

"Eden, you awake?" her mom's sweet voice spoke from outside the girl's room.

"Yeah, I'll be down in a minute" Eden spoke back, her voice lacking much emotion.

Sarah sighed outside her daughter's door. She knew the past few months had been hard. 

The family weren't very social in town, but Sarah and Michael had introduced themselves when their neighbours, the Hargroves, moved in next door. 

They knew Eden and Billy had become friends, he used to drive her to school every day and would often be around for dinner. 

Sarah and Michael liked the boy. 

They had never gauged how close the pair was until he died. 

Their daughter hadn't been the same since. 

As her mom left her alone, Eden began to get ready for school, or in her opinion the worse place on earth. 

She got changed out of her pyjamas, which consisted of one of Billy's old lifeguard shirts and a pair of shorts. 

She pulled out her clothes from her closet and got changed. 

It was nothing crazy.

Just some black ripped jeans and an oversized hoodie.
