There weren't many things Steven Grant was sure of outside of Egyptian mythology. He wasn't quite sure how to make friends. He was never certain of when was the appropriate time to arrive for something—is it too late if he arrives on time? Should he arrive early? Also, how soon was too soon to respond after a text? Does he reply upon receipt? Does he wait a few minutes? What if he waits an hour? What should he do if someone takes a while to respond to his text? Should he just wait? Or should he send a follow up text? Oh! And what was the deal about people staying so long after they said their goodbyes when they visited? Why say goodbye if you didn't want to leave? It didn't make any sense!
But, if there was one thing Steven was sure of, it was that he was completely and utterly and irrevocably in love with you.
You were Marc's girlfriend first. He had met you when you and Layla came to him, when you thought Steven was just some secret identity Marc had been using as Marc tried to keep his distance, fearing for your safety because of him being Khonshu's avatar. And, oh, you had been so nice. So sweet, so patient. When you realized Steven wasn't Marc and that he was totally clueless about everything, you explained everything you knew about the situation to him, taking your time, answering his questions. And you smiled at him with your pretty smile, your eyes sparkling and...Well, Steven would be a fool to not fall in love with you.
Marc hadn't been fond of Steven falling in love with his wife. He'd made that perfectly clear. But, as he and Steven got closer, as he saw how much you cared for Steven, he came around to the idea. It wasn't an easy relationship at first. It took a lot of time, learning how to live with each other. But you settled into a nice life together, and Steven wouldn't change it for the world.
Then Jake came along. Like Marc, and like Steven, he had fallen for you, too. And when he started making his presence known, he, too, joined the relationship. And suddenly Steven was feeling a little crowded out. He knew that Marc and Jake didn't mean to, but Steven couldn't deny that it felt like he was constantly competing to front, to spend time with you.
