Kakashi stares at her, his coal-black eyes not showing a hint of mercy. He meant business. 'Here it goes. Let's see what other crap I can pull out of this rusty trumpet. It's been a while since I fought against a court. No big deal...You can do this.'
"Well, Kakashi...I-I understand that you don't trust me. But I can assure you that-" 'What the fuck was that?'
"Don't assure me. Besides, I haven't even asked you any questions yet, but you're sitting over here, fretting over the situation, as if I already asked the questions."
"Well, I did something very stupid before, like sending a bladed petal at you, but I thought you were an enemy! I swear."
"Sakura...do you expect me to believe that?"
"Well, uh no..." she trailed off as Kakashi just scowls at her. "Kakashi...look...I-I promise you. I'm not going to be a danger to Konoha. I promise."
"Promises don't matter to me, because it's meaningless. It's the same thing with, 'Sorry'." Sakura's tongue is stuck at the roof of her mouth. She couldn't say a word, but she knew, that whatever questions he threw at her, no matter how ridiculous they sounded, she had to answer them, with honesty. Both remained silent as they waited for either of them to speak. Until Kakashi, broke the silence with the hope that she wasn't an enemy.
"Who are you?" asked Kakashi.
"I'm Sakura Haruno."
"Is that your real name?"
"Yes."
"Where did you learn to control chakra that well? Who's your sensei?"
"I don't have one. Self-taught," she replied. He wouldn't believe her unless he remembers the past and clearly he didn't.
However, her response caught Kakashi a little bit off guard. A glimmer of hope. Perhaps, like him, she is a prodigy? He shook his head. He needed to focus. Stop hoping for something he, himself is unsure of. It'll only bring him disappointment.
"Why did you aim the petal at me? You seem to be good at chakra sensing considering your advanced understanding and mastery of chakra." Silence ensued. This made Kakashi worry. His heart thrummed in his chest till it hurt. He's worried. Is it true? Will his fears come to light? Is she someone he needed to get rid of before she causes havoc?
But these worries were nothing but his warped conclusions. Sakura is just trying to come up with a reasonable explanation to tell him. He won't believe her if she told him that there were people that could duplicate his abilities, looks, and personality. But from his point of view, it looked like she was struggling to come up with an excuse.
"Sakura," he called out emotionlessly, yet the authority is clear.
She blinked out of her dilemma and looked at him.
"I'm taking you to T&I," he ordered. Panic was visible in her eyes.
'No.' her heart trembled. 'No. No, I can't go there.' sweat trickled from her forehead, past her nose, and down to the chin before falling to the ground. As it fell, the tension between them grew. Sakura knew, that no matter what she said or how hard she begged, he is going to bring her there, anyway.
"I'm sorry, but - I can't go there..." she whispered loud enough for Kakashi to hear. He frowns.
"And why can't you go, Ms. Sakura?" anger is evident in his tone. Sakura felt weak. During the many rebirths, they had, it was rare for her to be the cause of his dislike or vexation. Unless she stepped out of line and crossed his boundaries.
"I don't...I don't want others involved in this mess." she squeaked. Kakashi could barely hear her but he did and his eyes widened. 'What is she hiding?'
From the interrogation, she spoke only the truth. She never lied, which made him wonder. Just who was it that attacked Sakura and made her confuse him with the attacker?
Something is up and he didn't like it.
"I see, so could you please tell me what sort of mess you are involved in?" he asked.
"Well, it's no big deal. I can handle it," she said with a gentle smile and for a split second Kakashi believed it, but he knew that wasn't the case.
For now, he won't send her to T&I, but what she does need is protection. Although he knows she's strong enough to kill her enemies without them knowing, he'll still protect her from the sidelines.
"Alright, I won't take you to T&I, but I'll walk you home. The sun is going down." he finalized, causing Sakura to breathe a sigh of relief.
She looked in his direction and told him; "Okay Kakashi. Lead the way." Sakura said with a sophisticated smile, that exuded pretend aristocracy, making Kakashi chuckle. "Don't mind if I do." Kakashi slightly bowed as he extended his hand for her to take. She took it without hesitation and they walked down the streets of Konoha hand in hand.
Even though Kakashi said he won't take her to T&I it didn't mean he won't report it to the Hokage. The only difference is, that he'll try and convince him to supervise her from afar and not have her arrested to be interrogated.
Yeah. Young Kakashi isn't the most reckless teen out there, but he can be self-willed when he wants to be.
