not the freak ~ eddie munson

its me, remember? pt. 1

eddie had dozed off before the sun came up. he laid in the boat with a tarp on top of him. the sun was just about to come up by the time everyone left.

i left my backpack in eddie's car, i walk out quickly and quietly to grab it. i make my way back to see eddie still peacefully sleeping. i open up a book and start reading it as i wait for the group to get back.

eddie tosses and turns in the boat a few times. he picks his head up and opens one eye while rubbing the other one "you didn't sleep?" i turn my attention from my book to him "no, i was waiting for them to get back" i say as i fold the corner of the book page and close it.

eddie steps out of the boat and sits next to me bringing his knees up. i rest my head back on the wall and look over to him "you" he points at me "look tired" i smile and look forward "i am" i feel my heavy eyes blink slowly "then sleep, i'll be here" the mention of sleep made me open my eyes

"sleep doesn't come easy for me anymore" i get up and look over the water "and why's that?" he asks puckering his lips a bit "ever since ive moved to hawkins nothing has ever really been good except for my friends, billy at the time, you..." i smile and look away from him

"me?" he gets up excitedly "i don't get to be happy, i always have my guard up ever since the stuff with will happened and then last year with billy it's just-" "always something?" he asks and i nod my head "nightmares come with that so i tend to sleep very little"

i walk over and sit back down next to him with a sigh "i think you probably gotta add what you saw to your list" he says talking about chrissy "you do too" i tell him and he nods his head with his eyebrows raised "not wrong about that one" he kicks his legs out and crosses them over each other.

i look over to see him staring at me "you're staring" he looks the opposite direction and tries to contain his smile "this is feeling like one of those dreams or.. alternate realities" he looks back at me smiling

"it's not my first time around with this thought, it's just another day in the life!" i say as i put a peppy fake smile on my face. eddie's face falls as we hear something outside, he gets up and looks around but nothings there.

the door flings open and we both jump i let out a small shout and eddie puts a hand on my back. dustin walks in with bags of food "delivery service" he smiles but drops it as he sees our scared faces.

steve looks from eddie's hand to me and waves with a shit eating grin. eddie drops his hand and clears his throat as he takes the bags from dustin.

me and eddie sit on the boat as steve robin, max and dustin stand in front of us. eddie opens the cereal they bought for us and starts shoveling it in.

he grabs my hand and pours some in it "eat" he says with a mouthful "so we have some good news and some bad news" dustin looks around at everyone "what do you prefer" he asks us. "bad new-" "good news" me and eddie say at the same time "no" eddie nudges my knee with his "bad news first, always" he says seriously as he continues to eat the cereal.

eddie grabs a bottle of yoo-hoo from the bag and opens it. he takes a few swigs from it and grabs the other bottle opening for me "thank you" i whisper as dustin continues to fill us in "they are convinced you killed chrissy" max tells us "and you were involved" robin says pointing at me "and the good news?" i ask as i take the cap from eddie's hand and close my drink

"names? not public yet but it's a matter of time until they are" steve tells us "but once that gets out everyone and their shallow minded mothers is gonna be looking for you.. both of you" robin clarifies

"but before that happens we need to find vecna, kill him and prove you guys are innocent" dustin says like it's the easiest thing in the world "that's all dustin? i mean seriously?" he asks sarcastically "yeah that's pretty much all" dustin says and eddie drops his head a bit

"it wouldn't be the first time we've done something like this alright? usually we have eleven who has these superpowers but-" "but! those went bye bye" steve says being an ass.

it goes quiet between us all, until sirens start going off. they start getting closer "shit shit shit" max says panicking "uh- tarp!" robin says as eddie throws the tarp over us. we lay down being as still as possible, our breathing is rugged and panicked

"is now a good time to mention i don't like small spaces?" i whisper to eddie as i keep my eyes closed. i feel his hand find mine as the coldness of his rings lay lightly on my skin "it's me remember? you'll be fine" he whispers as steve kicks the boat

"guys, we gotta go check this out" robin says taking the tarp off of us, i hop out of the boat as quick as i can "shit i forgot" steve says as i catch my breath "it's fine" i walk past him and take the pack of cigarettes from my backpack "we'll be back" robin tells me as she shuts the door
