My whole body froze.
Ice seemed to flow through my veins, my heart dropping to my stomach as I tried to process what was happening. I clenched my teeth as I tried to decide if I should continue reading the article. Eyes upward, I closed them for a short while, breathing in and out as I wrestled with my own thoughts.
Swallowing, I forced myself to press on the article, a blurry picture popping up at the top of the page.
The picture itself was low quality, something a fan must have snapped in a hurry on a cell phone, trying not to get caught. Despite its blurriness, you could tell the man in question was tall and had broader shoulders, his black V-neck hugging his arms and stretching across his chest. He also wore black joggers, showing off his tapered waist that continued into long legs. It was undeniable how similar the physiques were.
Zooming in, most of his face was covered in black hat and mask, and something almost shiny glinted against his neck, but looking into those eyes, I had no doubt it was him.
Fingers shaking, I continued to read the article, the opening lines read: Zee Pruk was reportedly sighted in Chiang Rai this afternoon, a little over two years since his disappearance.
Scrolling up, I leaned against the wall, trying to gain my bearings.
A fan captured this photo while walking downtown in Chiang Rai. First shared on Twitter, our team reached out to confirm the day and date. The fan also said that she thought she briefly saw an AirPods case similar to the one his once on-and-off screen partner, NuNew Charawin, gave him as a present on their second 'date' before they announced their relationship after their series ended.
Our Chiang Rai office has dispatched their team around the downtown area, hoping to catch a glimpse of him again. Our team has also been talking to the locals, trying to get any information about Zee Pruk living there. There has been little to no confirmation thus far.
It has been a little over two years since Zee Pruk's entire family passed away, including his two sisters and a young child, due to a drunk driver swerving into their lane after running a red light. Afterwards, he was last seen at his family home. Soon after their funerals, he disappeared and had yet to be seen until maybe now.
NuNew Charawin has always declined to comment on the accident and his disappearance.
What do you think? Is the man in the photo Zee Pruk?
Barely able to move, I stumbled toward the door that would lead me to the elevator. Staring at the screen again once I entered the elevator, not knowing how to feel.
How is one supposed to feel when their everything suddenly vanishes?
I could feel my tightly controlled anger unwinding, the mix between frustration and sadness almost overwhelming. My eyes pricked with tears as I started to drown in a sense of abandonment.
Why–
The doors to the elevator opened with a soft clunk, interrupting my thoughts, revealing the lobby. Walking toward the glass doors, I notice P'Aof's back to me, his posture tense.
Anxious, I quietly moved toward only to stop in my tracks:
"...saw the article. What the hell Zee? It's not a rumor, is it? You've been there all this time?"
"Listen, we all understand how devastated you were...are. But you've been gone for over two years. Not to mention the damage you've done to New."
"Now you're worried? Yes," he sighed, holding the bridge of his nose, "we've been trying to make sure he stays healthy. But you have a lot of nerve to call me out of the blue and ask for my help after you ignored me for so long. I thought we were family..."
