If Only

If only I could put my arms
around your shivering body,
I would have hugged you tight,
so tight that’d drive away your worry.

If only I could hold your hand
and keep it close in mine,
I would’ve held it tight
until I make it warm.

If only I could reach you out
and pat your back gently,
I would’ve been a shoulder to lean on
for when your tears are heavy.

And if this is only I can for now
I’d gladly do and make it up to you somehow;
for I know how hard it is to cry
when no one else is by your side.
