The tall mahogany door opened with a painful creek. Jevin winced a bit at the sound, hoping that it had not disturbed anyone who could be behind it. He looked through the doorway and into the office. The room had high white walls with sanded wood details along them, dark wood floors, and a small glass chandelier on the ceiling above a desk in the center. The chair at the desk was empty. Jevin tilted his head in confusion and took a step in. 'Where is-'
"What can I help you with Mr. Bitumine?" A rough voice appeared behind Jevin, startling him to his core. He turned around with wide eyes to see the office's owner. The figure had white hair pulled back into a neat ponytail, piercing maroon eyes, and was wearing a coffee brown suit with a dark gray button up. It was his boss, Xathan Void.
"Mr. Void!" Jevin said, brushing his dark blue hair back after the sudden scare. Mr. Void looked at him for a moment. 'Was he waiting for something?' Jevin thought to himself, before realizing he was in the way. Jevin quickly stepped aside from the door entrance. "I have an update on the papers current-"
"Thank you Mr. Bitumine, but I am fully aware of the situation." Mr. Void said before Jevin could even finish. Jevin watched as the man walked past him and into the office.
"The circulation of the Hermiton has gone down for the second time since the civil war ended." Jevin explained, despite knowing his boss would know this anyway. Jevin moved to follow Mr. Void, the pale man sitting down at his desk.
"All that ruckus over some ridiculous claims and shenanigans, it's complete nonsense... There has to be some way to bring the circulation back up," said Mr. Void, pinching his nose, then he glanced up at the blue-haired man,"Or at least put some more money in my pocket." Jevin was about to speak up again when he was interrupted by two men walking into the room.
"Mr Void-" said Zloy before freezing realizing he had interrupted something. The man had a Russian accent and his skin was so pale it almost appeared a sickly green, he had eyes the color of dandelions and a pair of goggles on the top of his head.
"I didn't mean to interrupt Mr. Void, sir-" he quickly ducked behind his friend and co-worker Pixel. Pixel had neat brown hair and a beard, he was wearing a nice white button-up shirt with a navy blue suit jacket and black pants. It was nowhere near as nice as what Mr. Void was wearing but looked a million times nicer than the shirt and pants Jevin had on.
"It's fine, what was so important that you had to interrupt?" Mr. Void asked, his tone made it sound the opposite of 'fine'.
"Zloy and I were talking about the paper's um...current dilemma and..."
"Go on."
"We came up with an idea that might save the paper."
"And what is it?"
"We could cut back on sallories-"
"That is out of the question!" Shouted Mr. Void, he stood up, the papers on his desk scattering as he did. Jevin watched as the boss took a deep breath and calmly raised up to cross his arms.
"Would anyone else like to suggest something?" The room was dead silent. Jevin glances back and forth between everyone in the room. Everything in him told him not to speak, yet the sickening silence of the room propelled him too.
"We could try a more exciting headline..." Jevin said softly. All the faces in the room turned to look at him, but the one he was mostly concerned about was Void's. His boss stared at him for what felt like a very long time, when in reality it must have only been a few seconds.
"And is there anything to be excited about?" Mr. Void asked. Pixel piped up a few moments after.
"The Mycelium Grass debacle is still continuing?" Any look of hope Pixel had was gone as Mr. Void slammed his hands onto the desk.
"Are you trying to bankrupt us even faster?!" Mr. Void scoffed, making Jevin feel himself tense up. All three employee's looked between each other. Zloy was looking like a nervous wreck, he tried his best to hide it, but the frantic look in his eye wasn't helping. Pixel on the other hand was covering up his anxiety over the situation rather well, except for his foot which was tapping softly against the wood floor.
"Mr. Riff and Mr. Xp, keep thinking of some more solutions." Mr. Void instructed. Both men nodded and turned, the soles of their shoes hitting the floor echoed throughout the room until the door creaked once more...and then there was silence.
"Mr. Bitumine." Mr. Void said, causing Jevin to blink and look back at him.
"Yes Sir?"
"Get me a drink..."
