We woke up to the sound of continous firing and the shout of seven people. I looked around for the source of the noise and saw my comrades were tied to a bamboo pole inside a cambis tent.
It was freezing outside, there was a hail storm going on and the winds were howling at the top of their voice like a pack of hungry wolves. I could see the snow outside sparkling like powdered diamonds through the tent flap.
We were probably thousand feet above the elevation of our base camp. We could see the enemy troops marching through the tent flap.
We were probably at the base camp of the Pakistani troops in the mountains.
Soon we were taken out of the tent, the scene outside the tent was quite beautiful. The base camp had been established on top of a deep gorge whose snowy depths looked never ending to us. All around we were surrounded by tall, snowy mountains and deep cliffs. There was no vegetation all around, just white never ending stretches of snow covered land.
We were taken out and tied to another pole outside the tent. We were given warm clothes to wear and some tinned beans to eat. We knew that these were our only supplies for the day. All day we were tied to the pole and if someone wanted to use the bathroom, he would be given a bucket or a sharp jab in the stomach with the end of a rifle. Throughout the day we received inhuman treatment from the Pakistani troops.
It was the third day of our captivity. Many of us had started to deteriorate, the medical supplies were limited and were exclusively for the Pakistani troops. So as our last resort we decided to escape.
