Chapter 13

The clocked inside the classroom ticked away, it was near the end of the day, and boy oh boy were Fatima and Edgar excited, their last ' class ' of the day way recess, then they'd go home! The two kids were practically bouncing with excitement as they eyed the door at the back of the classroom that lead to the playground and the small basketball court that they'd be able to play on for 30 minutes before going home and playing with toys.

" Alright class, remember: You need to finish your homework by the end of the week, also i won't be in next week, i'll be visiting family for very important reasons and that mean's you'll have a substitute teacher, please be kind to her, got that? " Mx. Sapphire spoke as the class all agreed, they were all just excited to go outside and play before going home.

And with that out of the way, Mx. Sapphire walked towards the door and opened it " Go on, Everyone. It's recess time! " And with that phrase finally spoken, The children all bolted out the door, excitedly scurrying over to the playground and the small basketball court.

Edgar and Fatima made their way to the small basketball court, where the two picked up some rubber balls and began to throw them at each other and occasionally against the chain-link fence that surrounded the court itself.

" Did your Mom say it was alright for you to spend the night at my house? " Fatima asked as she looked over at Edgar, who was trying to balance the ball atop his head, which wasn't working.

" Maman says i can! As long as i'm fed dinner and i'm safe, i can spend the night! " Edgar replied with a smile " Can we watch movies too? " They asked

Fatima nodded with enthusiasm " Yes! We can! My Baba has lots of movies for us! Maybe we can even have dessert while we watch the movies! "

That's when the two noticed another child on the opposite side of the basketball court. The kid was bouncing a basketball against his head and he was laughing with joy, as if the basketball hitting his head didn't hurt him in any way, shape, or form.

The kid had Tan Skin, Blue-Green eyes, Auburn brown hair that was in coils, freckles all along his face, shoulders, and arms, band-aids all on his arms and one on his cheek, and on his right leg was a prosthetic leg!

" We gotta be friends with him " Fatima spoke, her voice seemingly deadpan as she looked over at Edgar, who blinked and nodded in agreement. And with that, Fatima and Edgar made their way over to the kid, who was still bouncing the basketball against his head, but it was now bouncing back off the chain-link fence.

" Hey! hey you! " Fatima called out to the kid, who turned to look at her and Edgar " Wanna be friends with me and my friend here? " Edgar waved shyly and flashed a small smile at the kid.

" Yes! Absolutely! " The kid exclaimed happily as he caught the basketball " My Name's Garreth Jackson Evans! " A wide smile formed on the kids face  " But You can call me Gary! " He pointed at himself, standing proudly.

" My Name's Fatima Djamila Salman! " Fatima responded " My Baba chose my name for me! "

" What about you? What's your name? " Gary asked Edgar as he tilted his head.

" Uh.. Uhm.. Uh.. " Edgar stuttered for a moment " My name's Edgar... V-Victor Carbonneau " He spoke " My last name's hard to say " He admitted sheepishly as he looked away out of embarrassment.

Gary smiled " Well, Edgar and Fatima, I declare us to all be friends! We should get some snacks to celebrate this friendship! " He said with excitement in his voice.

" Oh, Oh! " Edgar exclaimed " Maybe my Maman will get us some fast food! I Have not had it in a long time! And it's very tasty! " His lips curled into a smile " We gotta ask our parents! "
