Y/N
These past few hours had been tough for you. Your mom and dad got into another fight, seeing as that's all they can do these days. You wished that everything was normal. You wished that your father was happy working as the chief editor at the Hawkins Post and you wish that your mom would go back to being the perfect president of the PTA at Hawkins High. But no. Like always, they're drunk and arguing about whatever minor inconvenience they run into. You wanted to get away. It was 4 pm and the sun was still out, but barely. Not bothering to put on your wig, or conceal your scars, you put on my headphones and plugged them into your Walkman. You intended to walk through town, concealing your face so that you could be left alone and in peace.
As you walked outside your house, you pressed play on a song that you'd happily play on repeat over and over...'Separate Ways (Worlds Apart)' by Journey.
"Here we stand. Worlds apart, hearts broken in two, two, two." You sang as the music echoed in your ears.
"Sleepless nights. Losing ground, I'm reachin' for you, you, you." You smiled, walking throughout Hawkins. You didn't care about the curfew that was set by the police, or the fact that the sun would soon be going down. All you cared about was escaping your parents.
"Feelin' that it's gone. Could change your mind. If we can't go on. To survive the tide, love divides." You sang, crossing the streets of Hawkins, letting your hair flow in the wind that had been slowly picking up for about 10 minutes.
Getting towards the outskirts of town, you noticed the trailer park. You wanted to go beyond the trailer park, as the woods surrounding it were quite beautiful and serene, especially at sunset.
Seeing no cars coming, you crossed the street, still listening to the song. As you stepped on the road, you felt a pair of arms grab you and toss you to the side of the road. You panicked, seeing a car zooming past with no sign of stopping.
"What the hell..." You whispered as you removed your headphones, looking up. Someone was on top of you. You recognised him.
"Steve? Steve Harrington?" You asked, seeing his signature hair.
"Y/N Y/L/N?" He asked, seeming to remember you.
Last year, before the Starcourt Mall burned down, Steve worked at Scoops Ahoy. You went there one day and he asked you out on a date. Unfortunately, he blew you off by not coming to the date. He apologised and said that he had a good reason, but he couldn't tell you.
"Are you okay? Are you hurt?" He asked, helping you off the gravel.
"I'm fine." You smiled.
"What are you doing here? You don't usually hang around these parts of town..." You asked.
"I'm here...visiting a friend." He admitted.
"What are you doing here, Y/N?" Steve asked as you dusted off your clothes.
"I'm just on a walk around town. I needed to get away from my parents." You picked up your Walkman. You sighed, happy that it was just scratched and not fully broken.
"I know that last time I asked you out...I kinda didn't show up, but I was wondering if...after I visit my friend, you would be up for a date later?" Steve asked, smiling at you.
"Sounds nice. I'll meet you back at your car at 6:30 pm." You spoke, Steve smiling even more. You walked off towards the woods, looking at your watch. It was 4:30 pm.
At 6:27, you were only 3 minutes away from Steve's car. Making it at 6:30, you smiled when Steve walked over to you, opening the passenger door.
Getting into his car, he drove you to his house, where he made you his only specialty, pasta. After a nice dinner and a good chat, he drove you home.
"Thanks for the date, and thanks for saving my life earlier." You smiled as he walked you to your front door.
"No worries. Maybe we can try a second date?" Steve asked, smiling.
"Sounds nice. How about...a lunch date? We can meet at the park bench behind the football field?" You asked as Steve nodded.
"Tomorrow?" He asked.
"Tomorrow is good." You smiled, kissing his cheek.
You watched as he walked towards his car before driving off, leaving you to head inside. Luckily, when you opened the front door, your parents weren't arguing. Even better, they were both drunk, meaning you could be undisturbed for the rest of the night.
