"Your strength doesn't come from winning. It comes from struggles and hardship. Everything that you go through prepares you for the next level."

All the excuses my mother had for me to not apply for such a job persisted for days.

Out of the blue, she would make remarks and especially remind me of my qualifications.

In her eyes the fact that I knew four languages wasn't enough.

"You speak four languages? I doubt that! I haven't seen you practice!"

Knowing to manage different computer programs such as Excel on a professional level and statistics programs was a given.

"That is nothing special nowadays. Your cousin Alec is an informatician and he does know how to program very difficult programs"

And it wasn't the first time I was being discouraged by people around me.

A high school teacher who failed me in physics said that maybe I should reconsider dropping out of acadèmics and applying for a job because college is very difficult. And that my low GPA was a serious matter.

My aunt told me after I failed to enter university on my first try that it was useless to try a second time.

My college final thesis supervisor told me that my work was low quality and my current vocabulary wasn't wide enough for a master's level.

So it wasn't like I didn't have my fair share of discouragement.

But for some reason, I didn't let their words get to me and I worked harder to prove them wrong.

And I did prove all of them wrong. During the time I didn't go to college I worked and saved money.

Afterward, I used that money and paid for my college which by the way I didn't fail any subject for the entire four years.

Then I applied for a master's degree and here I am now graduating with very good grades.

I shouldn't mind the advice from people who didn't even finish high school but I can't ignore them.

In my home, the place that should be my support, I feel like the most stupid person in the house. Like everyone in my family is more intelligent than I am.

So once again I took her words and decided to prove her wrong.

I looked at the business card and wrote the email.
