You Could Never Be

Chapter 2

Beep beep beep beep!

The alarm on Yeji's phone woke her up. She looked at the time, 5:00 AM. She had about two hours of sleep. Yeji had a tough time going to sleep as she was consumed by her thoughts. Additionally, she thought about their comeback for Checkmate. It was a rough night for Yeji, and now she has a really big migraine.

Yeji slowly got up from her bed and let out a groan. She had about 45 minutes until she and the girls had to go to their first schedule for the day. Yeji went to check on the rest of the girls, and it seemed like no one was awake yet. One by one she went to each of their bedrooms to get them up.

Once all the girls got out of their bedrooms, Yeji gave them a big smile and said, "Checkmate!"

The girls let out a squeal, and Yuna gave Yeji a big hug. "In less than one hour, Midzys get to see Checkmate," said Lia.

"This is our most mature concept yet, I wonder what Midzys will think," Yeji replied.

"I think Midzys will cry when they see it," Ryujin excitedly said.

"Should we all go on VLive today?" Chaeryeong asked as she started to make breakfast.

"Yes, that's a good idea. So we can see what Midzys think of the comeback, " Yeji replied as she began to help Chaeryeong with the food.

The Itzy girls made and ate their breakfast quickly, and then got ready for their radio morning show.

Throughout the radio show, Yeji kept on a big smile. She tried really hard to be her usual self, but it was hard. There were times when she caught herself feeling sad and not listening to the conversations. Then she would snap out of it as she saw Ryujin looking at her intently.

Uh-oh. Yeji thought to herself. She can't allow herself to be immersed with these feelings right now, especially since Ryujin just caught her in that zone. Out of all the girls, Ryujin can't see this. Or else, Ryujin will definitely catch on.

Yeji snapped out of it, and listened to the conversation."It seems like we have a lot of fans writing to us that Itzy's maknae and eldest is indistinguishable," Wendy said.

The Itzy girls laughed, and Lia said, "Yeji is so cute and Yuna just expresses sexiness so well. We've heard fans say that it's hard to tell who is the youngest and oldest of the group."

"Yeji unnie is cuter than me," Yuna replied.

"No. Yuna is so cute off-stage and so sexy on-stage. She is still very cute but she shows sexiness more than me on stage. This makes it hard for fans to know who the oldest is because I don't always give off the oldest vibe," Yeji said as she chuckled.

"Why don't we have Itzy vote on who is the cutest?" Wendy asked.

"Yuna," Lia said.

"Yuna," Chaeryeong said.

"Yeji unnie," Yuna said.

"Yuna," Yeji said.

"Yeddeong," said Ryujin by using Yeji's nickname.

"It seems like it's almost split, but Yuna the maknae is voted as cutest by Itzy," Wendy commented. "This is my last question before we take a break. Our listeners want to know who do you guys want to do a collaboration with?"

The girls all smiled, but of course this is a question that they need to provide with careful answers. As a K-pop idol, everything you say can be taken in a different manner than your original intention.

The first one to break the silence was Yuna, "Jessi unnie!" The rest of the girls all agreed and got all excited.

"For me, Ariana Grande," Lia answered.

"Chaeyeon unnie," Chaeryeong replied.

"Me..." Ryujin slowly said. The rest of the girls were on edge with how Ryujin started her answer. "Stray Kids."

"Oh, yes!" Yuna chimed in. "We're close with Stray Kids oppas, and we would love to collaborate with them."

Chaeryeong added, "We trained with them for a long time, and it would be nice to be on stage together."

The girls then began to sing Stray Kids most recent comeback song, Maniac. Even Wendy started to sing along as Itzy began to dance to Maniac.

Yeji thought that maybe Wendy may have forgotten about her needing to answer. That would be a relief because Yeji hasn't thought of a safe answer yet.

"Yeji...?" Wendy began to say as Itzy began to finish singing Maniac.

"Hmmm..." Yeji think, she thought to herself.

The answer Yeji actually wanted to say was Stray Kids too, but Ryujin beat her to it. Itzy and Stray Kids were seen as the sister-brother group of JYP. It is true that they have been and are close for a girl and boy group.

But who do I say now? Yeji didn't know what to answer now. The only person she can think of was Hyunjin. Many fans say they have the same style and even look alike. Also, Yeji really wants to do a dance collaboration with him.

Should I say it? Yeji asked herself. The rest of Itzy began to laugh as Yeji continued to not answer.

"Hmmmm... Hyunjin?" Yeji blurted out. As soon as she said it, she regretted it. The rest of the girls were silent at first as if they were shocked, then they began to laugh. Hysterical laugh.

Ugh. Wrong answer! Yeji just wanted to bury her face in her hands in embarrassment. Out of all the K-pop idols- she had to say Hyunjin, a boy. But Yeji had to keep her composure no matter how much her members we're not helping her with their laughter.

"Yes! I've heard many fans say you guys look alike." Wendy saved Yeji. As an idol herself, Wendy probably understood the situation that Yeji got herself in.

"Midzys and Stays say that we do resemble each other, and I think our fans would be excited if we have a dance collaboration. I think we have similar dance styles." Yeji hoped her answer was good enough. She was not excited to see reactions from fans and antis about her answer.

Worst yet, she knows the rest of Itzy was not going to let this go.
