Chapter 14: Forbidden, Yet Stolen

During my extremely brief stay in the hospital, I made sure to ask for a portable laptop.

Why? Because oddly enough, I recognized where the warehouse that blew up was located.

And I had to admit, how did I not recognize it before? I went to that same warehouse when I was younger as a way to occupy my time.

It was actually my favorite place to play hide and seek. I mean, like, who wouldn't? There was all this space just waiting to hide something and so why not?

But it was in a pretty remote and deserted area. Otherwise, a place in the middle of nowhere.

I discreetly searched up the address for directions, which wasn't really that difficult to do since all of the nurses and doctors left me pretty much alone. As I scanned it and printed it out, in the middle of the night, might I add, I began to pack up and go.

Earlier this afternoon, I also -discreetly- got a few extra shirts and pants, plus a whole bunch of those really annoyingly super crunchy granola bars as a snack. Hey, you can't get picky if you're starving, right?

Last but not least, you just can't forget water, especially after reading that really suspicious article about how you can survive more on water than food.

To be honest, I can't believe the nurses actually gave me all that I needed, without asking what for. Really peculiar in my opinion.

As I sneakily head out of the gigantic building and avoided all security cameras, which I didn't know how it got done, but anyway I was contemplating whether I should walk the long eight miles or take a car.

Which unfortunately I don't know how to drive nor do I have a driver's license, so I guess walk it is.

Well, I jogged about 5 miles before I couldn't take it any longer because of the insanely freezing wind and besides, I haven't done track in quite a while, not to mention, my ankle still hadn't fully healed even after an agonizing week. I couldn't afford to wait any longer.

I took a tiny sip of water and begun walking as I hungrily ate the chocolate chip granola bar. Which lasted like heaven, by the way.

After I finished my small meal for the day, I checked my watch, being surprisingly thankful I actually thought about bringing a watch since yeah, I still don't have a phone. But it's fine, I guess, I never really quite needed a phone anyway.

It flashed a neon green 3:28 AM.

I looked for a clearing between various redwood trees and slept for God knows how long. It was nice being in nature after so long. It was . . . peaceful.

The sun was starting to rise brightly to my right and my watch blinked a 6:46 AM, meaning I slept a total of about three hours. Felt much longer but I was rested, so I headed out again and followed the guidance of the printed map.

Exactly 49 minutes I was there after frequent breaks. The building was exactly as expected, but of course, completely demolished. Yet some parts were still mostly attached and seemed safe enough to search.

I really hoped he -they- made it out safely, but I'm still skeptical. I had to check, you know? I just had to know for some odd reason.

I wanted them to be very much alive, but there was such a slim chance. Why do I even care? Shouldn't I be happy he's not alive anymore after what he'd done to us and even that girl who was just an innocent bystander in all this? What if she died along with them? Fearful of that thought, I quickly erased it.
