Chapter 6: My Answer
"I love you," three little words that could mean so much, "Will you go out with me?"
Shocked still would be an understatement. My mind was completely blank. I didn't know how to respond.
Sensing my discomfort, Adam added, "You don't have to answer me right this minute. . . "
"Uhm . . . o-okay, I'll think about it," I stuttered. I was still in an impenetrable daze when he gingerly took out the necklace from the box and unclasped it. I couldn't think, but there was one fact I do know for sure. "Adam," I couldn't accept that.
"I know, even if you're going to reject me, I want you to have it anyway. You could think of it as a friendship necklace," he said softly.
"That's not it, I can't . . . "
"I want you to have it," he repeated, inches away from me. "May I do the honor?" He reached to push my brown locks away.
I lied. There was another matter I remembered in the spur of the moment. The mark. His mark. That's why I did what I did afterwords.
"No!" I shrieked and jumped back, whilst touching my neck and covering that.
Hurt flashed through his eyes.
"I mean . . . I mean . . . I didn't mean it like that . . . do you have a band aid?" I was really sorry at what I've done but I had to do that. And change the topic. Although, I could have just said to let me put on the necklace by myself and leave it at that. On the other hand, that would definitely ruin his pride.
He was never one to be suspicious with me. Nevertheless, he replied, "It's okay, but I didn't go shopping yet."
Now what was I going to do?!
Nothing, that's what. There's nothing left to do. Besides, there's still a slim chance he wouldn't notice. I should've known I'll be wrong about that. There was never a time it went my way. Why would that happen now?
He tenderly went back to moving my hair to the right side, the imprint in full display. He placed the necklace in front of me, he was about to clasp it. But then, he noticed it. He definitely saw it. Like I predicted.
His once warm hands clenched into a fist and he didn't move for a second. I was afraid the necklace would break in his tightening grip. However, he soon unclenched his fist and worked his way to clasping the stunning necklace around my neck.
"Promise me you won't take it off?" he whispered in my ear, a trace of anger still audible.
"I promise." It was the least I could do. I quickly adjusted my messy hair.
"I'll always be waiting for you."
I couldn't grasp what to say, to do, what my response would be. So, I said the only thing I could say when the clock struck the end of my stay, "I need to go," gesturing to the time.
"I'll drive you back, it's getting late."
"No, it's alright," he did more than enough.
"It'll be my pleasure," he said not letting go.
"Okay . . . "
The ride was a quiet one. It wasn't to the point I was suffocating, but it wasn't harmonious either.

"Oh my gosh!" Abigail gasped, "Where did you get such a gorgeous necklace?!"
"It's beautiful, isn't it?" I held up the charms. A crescent-shaped moon and a slightly smaller star, I wonder what they stood for. I knew it would be a colossal topic to discuss about once I found out how it would always catch the sunlight. Sparkling brightly. I sighed, "Adam asked me out." Abigail would find out sooner or later, she's a sharp person. Better sooner than later.
