I'm on the couch browsing corset tops on my laptop. I click on one with a vintage print and long lace sleeves, practically drooling. But a glance at the price turns me off.
Three hundred for a top is no doubt obnoxious. I know it is.
That's precisely why I'm also confused as my cursor hovers over the purchase button for a moment before clicking it. I continue to be confused as my fingers type in my card information and shipping address.
A smile tugs on my lips as I look at the order conformation. My fingers know my needs a little too well.
I sip on my coffee as my phone pings with a notification. I let out a groan and reach for it but someone's hand beats me to it.
I look up to see Alyssa looking down on the screen then at me with amused expression.
"When did you get here?" I ask as I let out a yawn. I know I didn't hear the doorbell ring.
"I let myself in," she says as she slides in next to me on the couch and tugs on the blanket. I let up as we snuggle under the blanket. "It's freezing in here!"
"Hm, yeah the thermostat's on the fritz. I think Dad's out fixing it with Kiara." I say as I nudge her to pass me the phone.
"Uh, nope. Not until I hear about your date." She wiggles her eyebrows. "I want to know everything."
Alyssa, dod bless her, is the most snoopiest person I know. But, I know she means well and the only friend I have right now, so I start with Theo coming to pick me up.
It's been a couple days since the date and I feel like I'm floating on a magical cloud with absolutely no intention of coming back down. I still feel the fleeting memory of Theo's soft lips on mine.
I contemplate showing Alyssa the picture we took at the tunnel in the Aquarium but dismiss the idea quickly. I want that to myself.
I do tell her about the employee at the gift store and her fucking airhorn.
Alyssa's been through all the motions as I finish the story. She looks at me with a big smile and dreamy eyes. "It sounds like you had an amazing time. I'm so happy for you, bella." She passes me my phone. "That was your boy, by the way."
I snatch the phone as Alyssa laughs picking up the remote and shuffling through Netflix.
I feel a giddy energy pass through me as I open my text with Theo. The screen fills with endless blue and white bubbles from our previous texts talking about absolutely nothing. We've also gotten into a habit of sending 'goodnight' and 'good morning' texts. It makes my insides all mushy every time.
His latest text is a gif of a twerking donut. A TWERKING DONUT! With strawberry glaze and sprinkles. That's it. No explanation accompanying it.
Maybe we've gotten too comfortable too fast. But that thought does not take priority as I burst out laughing. Alyssa looks at me funny and I twist the phone in her direction. She looks at me, too stunned to comment. Shaking my head, I type out a response.
Theia: Context, please?
Theo: Waiting for a routine checkup. Found this and though it was funny.
Theo: It IS funny, right?*skull emoji*
Theia: I just spit out my coffee.
Theia: Not actually. Coffee's too precious. *clown emoji* Where'd you even find it?
Theo: One of the great mysteries of the universe.
