Chapter 14 - Aye, But Why Is The Rum Gone?

*Juliet's POV*
Smoke. The smell of smoke woke me up from my slumber, smoke and rum. Rum?

Opening my eyes I sat up ignoring my headache and looked around to see a humongous smoke signal. Catching my eye I saw Elizabeth throwing what looked to be a barrel on the fire, then after a second or so an explosion erupted. Scrabbling up I ran over to her, "what are you doing?!" "What does it look like Juliet? Creating a smoke signal." She said throwing something else on the fire and pulled me behind a crate. "But you burnt the rum?!" "Yes, I burnt the rum." She said as we stood back up. I was lost for words, I had become quite fond of rum and it's grand taste.

"Stop! Not good!" I heard Jack say as he came running towards us waving his hands about, "what are you doing? You burnt all the food, the shade - the rum!" "Yes, the rum is gone." "Why is the rum gone?!" Both me and Jack asked at the same time making Elizabeth turn around and glare at us. "One, because it is a vile drink that turns even the most respectable men - and women - into complete scoundrels. Two, that signal is over a thousand feet high. The entire Royal Navy is out looking for me, do you really think that there is even the slightest chance that they won't see it?" I felt a little guilty when she suggested that I am turning into a 'scoundrel'.

"But why is the rum gone?" Jack said clearly not understanding what she said. Elizabeth turned around and sat on the sand staring out to the horizon, "just wait, Captain Sparrow. You give it one hour, maybe two, keep a weather eye out and then you will see white sails on that horizon." Anger written all over his face he pulled out his pistol, cocked it and aimed it at Elizabeth's head. I took my knife and held it to Jack's throat glaring at him, "keep in line Jack." I growled making him glance at me and then at Elizabeth a couple of times, then reholisted his pistol and stalked off. Feeling guilty and a little curious I followed after him.

"'Must've been terrible for you to be trapped here, Jack. Must've been terrible for you.' Well it bloody is now!" I heard him mimic Elizabeth, "Jack!" I shouted grabbing his sleeve and made him turn and face me, "Jack, calm down" his face changed to a sorry look, "look." I said pointing to the white sails on the sea making him turn back and see for himself. "There'll be no living with her after this." I heard him mutter before spinning back towards me and shocked me. He hugged me, Captain Jack Sparrow hugged me. "Jack, what is it?" He pulled away "I face the gallows because of her, now. Unless you help me." "Help you?" I asked looking at him with confusion in my eyes, "aye, help me."
