Chapter 8 - Provoking Old Memories

*Third Person POV*
"Time to go, Poppet." Pinel said as he watched Elizabeth in her cabin like watching a tiger in their cage. Walking out, Barbossa latched the medallion around Elizabeth's neck before they got into the long boats and headed to the island. In the distance you could hear a parrot speaking erie words, "dead men tell no tales."

A few miles away before the shipwreck grave battlement was the Interceptor, all the crew had been busy keeping a steady pace up to catch up with the Pearl however when Jack told them to stop they did and looked over the edge of the ship to see the remains of the many ships that had been lost trying to find the island. "Puts a chill in the bones how many honest sailors have been claimed by this passage." Mr. Gibbs said looking at the rather big wreck to his right.

As Jack closed his compass after feeling Cotton staring at him he swiftly moved the ship before it too became shipwrecked, "how is it that Jack came by that compass?" Will asked Mr. Gibbs as he walked over to him. "Not a lot's known about Jack Sparrow before he showed up in Tortuga with a mind to go after the treasure of the Isla de Muerta . That was before I met him, back when he was Captain of the Black Pearl." Mr. Gibbs replied. "It seemed like Juliet had to tell me that, she knows more about him than anyone at Port Royal." Will said looking over at Jack again and then Juliet. She was in the crows nest watching the gathering of shipwrecks.

"Well, he plays things closer to the vest now. And a hard-learned lesson it was. See three days out on the venture the first mate comes to him and says everything's an equal share. That should mean the location of the treasure, too, so Jack gives up the bearings. That night there was a mutiny. They marooned Jack on an island and left him to die but not before he'd gone mad with the heat." Mr. Gibbs said looking out to the waters. "Ah. So that's the reason for all the-" Will said as he imitated Jack, "Reason's got nothing to do with it. Now Will, when a man is marooned he is a given a pistol with a single shot - one shot. Well it won't do much good hunting or to be rescued. But after three weeks of a starvin' belly and thirst, that pistol will start to look real friendly. But Jack - he escaped the island, and he still has that one shot. Oh, but he won't use it, though, save for one man. His mutinous first mate." "Barbossa" "Aye."

As Will and Mr. Gibbs were talking Juliet climbed down from the crows nest she walked over to Jack at the helm. "Captain," she said, "I hope you realize that some of the crew are talking about you." "I'm aware of that, love. I'm just waiting for the right opportunity to make them aware that I'm listening." He responded as they both looked at the blacksmith and the pirate.

"How did Jack get off the island?" Will asked unaware of the audience they had gained, "well, I'll tell ye."

Juliet looked at Jack as a memory flashed through her mind of her when she was a young lass, aged 4 with her and Jack running through the town. You see she was running from Jack, it was a game you see, Jack was the pirate who wanted to kidnap Juliet and Juliet was the lass who didn't want to be kidnapped. As Juliet ran away from Jack smiling and laughing she crashed into a girl who was much more taller than Juliet called Tamathy aged 7. "Watch where you're going, moron." Tamathy shouted clearly not impressed at small Juliet, "I- I'm so sorry." Juliet stuttered slowly getting up and stepping away from Tamathy who only walked closer to her, "you better be. My father will be hearing about this and I'm sure he can sue your parents which I'm sure you don't have as you look like a runt." Backing up, Juliet hit a wall and whimpered. Her hairs standing on end as her heart rate quickened, "please don't hurt me." She whispered cowering as Tamathy towered over her. "GET AWAY FROM HER!" Jack shouted running up to Tamathy and diving onto her attacking her. As Tamathy was screaming and trying to fight back Jack yelled at Juliet to run back home, nodding that's what Juliet did with tears in her eyes but she fought them off as fire ran through her veins; she wouldn't let Jack fight her on his own she was almost twice the size as him, both in height and width. Anger pouring into her mind set she ran back to Jack and Tamathy and unleashed her rage on Tamathy sending her crying back home.
"Juliet I thought I told you to go home, I could handle that." Jack said as he took Juliet's hand and stood up, "I know," Juliet replied, her voice high and squeaky, "but I couldn't let you beat her up on your own, plus she was winning anyway so be grateful I helped."

Stumbling backwards Juliet grabbed onto the railing as Jack looked at her, "you okay, love?" He asked, Juliet nodded and looked at him. "Yeah; just, lost my footing. That's all." She said with a small smile but Jack could tell it wasn't the reason why. "Are you sure? There isn't a loose floorboard on this ship that I'm aware." Juliet bit her lip, "if you really want to know, I'll tell you later. There's too many people that can listen in." Juliet spoke quietly, "aye, love. But you have to promise." Jack said as Juliet nodded, "I promise."

Looking back at Mr. Gibbs and Will Jack and Juliet continued to listen. "He waded out into the shallows and there he waited three days and three nights till all manner of sea creature 'came and acclimated to his presence. And on the fourth morning, he roped himself a couple of sea turtles, lashed 'em together and made a raft." Mr. Gibbs carried on, "he roped a couple of sea turtles?" Will asked after a moments thought. "Aye, sea turtles." "What did he use for rope?" Will asked leaving Mr. Gibbs speechless. Assuming this was the cue for Jacn to make his presence known he walked over to the two and answered Will's question. "Human hair - from my back." Jack said looking at Will with a serious look about him. "Let go of the anchor!" He shouted at the crew after a while. "Let go of the anchor, sir!" The crew shouted scurrying to their stations.

"Young Mr. Turner, Miss. Nickel and I are to go ashore." Jack said walking to the edge of the deck as Mr. Gibbs, Will and Juliet followed. "Captain!" Mr. Gibbs said as Juliet looked surprised that the Captain had asked for her to come ashore with him and Will, "what if the worst should happen?" Mr. Gibbs finished. "Keep to the code." "Aye, the code." And with that the crew readied a long boat for the trio to go ashore and headed for danger.
