"A topic for another time," the words rang in his head. "For now, wake."

Those words continued to haunt him even after waking. It didn't matter whether he was showering or getting dressed, his mind wouldn't tire of obsessively replaying those words to him: as if it were insistent on preventing him from forgetting last night's events.

Not that he would've anyways, for he suspected that the vivid experience was going to stick with him for a long time to come. To be pulled close to the edge of life, beyond which only the darkness of annihilation waited, was not something you forgot easily: even if it did turn out to be a dream.

Not that it was of much comfort to him to learn he had been asleep the whole time, for his views on dreams were no longer as clear as they had once been. In the past, he would've thought that only mentally deranged people believed in their objective reality beyond the mind, the kind who heard voices in their head and hallucinated things that weren't really there, now, he wasn't so sure.

"Perhaps you could believe in such a thing and remain sane, " he thought. "Or maybe I have already gone mad."

Given the contemplation he was engaged in, it was hardly surprising that the events of the waking world passed him by quickly, attracting little attention and no comment from him. It was as if he was trapped in a prison of thought, looking outwards to see his life play out before him.

"...and then we nearly destroyed the ores because of that!" trickled a voice into his ear, speaking in German. "Can you imagine what would've happened if Megumin had destroyed them with her explosion spell?"

He shook his head lightly, slowly dragging himself out of the quicksand of thought.

"We would've been stuck with a fine of several million eris!" Anna exclaimed, shoulder slouching. "I don't think we even have that much eris to pay out."

It was about midday, with the various windows dotted around the mansion giving sight to the bright blue sky above and the energetic white light that illuminated the colourful landscape beneath. But in contrast to the good weather, the town of Axel was curiously quiet today. Not many people were out in the streets nor was the atmosphere filled with chit-chat and sounds of transportation.

Currently, he was seated in the dinning room with Anna who, due to the employment troubles they ran into after what she had described as their "last mishap", had found herself with a frustrating amount of free time on her hands. Unlike the rest of the party, who were busy either working to pay off the damage of their last adventure, or had disappeared off to explore various dungeons rumoured to contain various magical books capable of greatly enhancing one's magic, Anna had no such activities to engage in. And it was clear from her behaviour that the boredom which accompanied her free time was starting to take her toll on her.

"You seem agitated," he remarked quietly, noticing her fidgeting with her fingers.

"Just bored," she complained childish, slouching back into her seat. Unlike her usual ponytail, today she had allowed her hair to flow down freely and spill all over the arm rests of the chairs.  "I knew I shouldn't have trusted Megumin with destroying those giant bats, who knew she would have the brilliant idea of using explosion magic and end up collapsing the entire mine as a result?"

"She's an explosion fanatic," he snorted. "What else would you expect her to do?"

He saw a light glow of scarlet flash across Anna's pale features. "I know...I know, I just thought she would've known better."

"You put too much faith in her," Y/N said. "Anyhow, how long are you all barred from accepting commissions?"

"About a week, I think," she muttered softly.
