Chapter 6

The morning was lazy and slow coming, pale white light from outside squeezed through the windows scattered regularly on the walls, and alongside the little lamp-poles that populated the room, softly illuminating all the tables and chairs. The lobby was strangely isolated and quiet. Even the woman who had registered them as adventurers was missing from her post at the counter.

"Guys! Look! I repaired my armour with the reward I got from the cabbages , it's so shiny now! What do you guys think?"

Instinctively both Y/N and Anna turned away from the table and their drinks to catch the sight of Darkness approaching them. Her armour seemed to have been fully purged of the damage it had endured at the hands of the cabbages yesterday. 

"Looks like the sort of armour some newly-rich aristocrat's son would wear," Y/N scoffed.

"I second that opinion," Anna added.

"Hmph, there are times when I would like some genuine praise, too," Darkness replied, crossing her hands, clearly disappointed with the response. However, a moment later , a blush appeared on her cheeks as she added: "You never show any mercy, do you Y/N?"

"I don't have time to pay attention to you right now," Y/N replied, turning away from Darkness to point in another direction. "Do something about that pervert who's well on her way to surpassing you."

"Irresistible! Irresistible!" Megumin moaned with rubbing her body against her staff as if it were a pillow of sorts. "The luster of this Manatite staff brimming with magical power..."

"What was that?!" Aqua exclaimed in the background, mysteriously appearing at the counter with the collar of the lobby lady's dress in her hands. It looked quite frankly like harassment. "Hey, you, what's the meaning of this?! Just how many cabbages do you think I caught?!"

"W-Well," the lady tried to explain. "Most of what you caught was actually lettuce."

"Why is there lettuce mixed in?!" 

"Th-There's nothing I can do about it!"

"I went through a lot of trouble, so do something!"

Eventually Aqua, seemingly coming to the truth of her situation, let the poor lady go before turning back to rejoin the rest of the party whom most had just silently watched the scene unfolded.

"Well, this isn't going to be good," Y/N muttered under his breath, looking away in hopeful avoidance of any foolishness that would be sure to arise from the looks of it.

"Y~/~N~san," Aqua said in a sing-song-like voice as she hopped happily over. "About how much was your reward from our last quest?"

"I won't be disclosing that to you. But its substantial."

"Subs...tantial," Aqua muttered. "Hey, um, Y/N I've thought for a while that you are...sort of cool, you know."

"Flattery won't get you a loan," Y/N warned.

A moment of silence elapsed before Aqua broke. "Y/N-san!" Aqua cried, lying above the table while swinging her legs behind her wildly. When she began to shake him, Y/N could feel himself being thrown violently back and forward. "I thought my reward for this quest would be pretty hefty, so I used up all the money I had! In fact, I expected to rake in a bunch of money, so I have a bar tab of nearly 100,000 eris!"

"Why do I care?" Y/N demanded in response, pushing the wailing 'goddess' away from him. "You're the one who suggested we each keep our rewards for ourselves."
