This Can't Be How I Die

As I rode into the night, I could see sights that I could never imagine. The surrounding area of the camp looked like a desert. It felt like one too, so once I was far enough from the camp, I made my horse go from a sprint to a walk.

"Take it easy," I whispered as I stroked the horse's mane. "It's just the two of us now."

The horse continued to walk as I looked around. There was not a single living thing outside of the camp. I could hear different sounds echoing throughout the emptiness, but I could never tell where it was coming from. It was one of the nights though when I felt tired, but I wasn't tired enough to sleep, so it just sucked.

About an hour or two went by and I knew that the horse was getting tired, so I led her towards a cave that I remember seeing about 5 minutes back.

When we arrived at the cave, I got off of the horse and started to give it some apples that I brought in the horse's bag.

In the horse's bag, it had some more food for the both of us and enough water to last us a few days.

After the horse ate, she laid down and went right to sleep.

"You've done a good job, Spirit," I whispered as I stroked the horse's mane.

Another hour went by and I woke Spirit up. As I was about to get on her, I felt something grab my shoulder. I have pulled away from Spirit and thrown into the wall. There was enough impact that when I hit, I coughed up some blood. When my vision started to go back to normal, I could see two tall men standing in front of me. They were both dressed in black uniforms and had a large pair of pointed wings. I looked at Spirit as if to make a run for it, but I could see a third man holding her harness.

"Look at what we have here," one of the men laughed as he grabbed the collar of my shirt. "We caught ourselves a little human."

"She's a cute one too," the man standing next to him said as he stroked my braid.

"Let go of me!" I snapped as I tried to pull away. "And I'm not a woman!"

"Fisty one," the first man smiled as he threw me to the ground. "You may not be a woman but you look like one, are as small as one, and are as weak as one."

"You arse," I coughed before getting kicked in the stomach,

I coughed up more blood and started to shake a bit.

"British too," the first man added. "You can be sold for a lot so we're only gonna beat you enough so that you won't die."

The two of them continued to kick me more and I could hear my bones cracking and popping. Tears started to go down my face and more blood started to come out of my mouth.

"I don't want to die!" I thought as my eyesight started to go blurry. "Please, someone help me!"

I could then hear some coughing and choking. The kicking stopped so when I opened my eyes, I could see all three men laying on the ground. They were all dead and I didn't know what happened. As I was sitting up, I could see a white feather fall in front of my face. I caught it and when I looked at Spirit, I could see a different man stroking her mane. He was taller than the other men and he was wearing a torn-up white uniform. The thing that I noticed first though was the large set of angelic wings on his back. When he looked at me, his eyes were so dark. He had navy blue eyes and I could just see death in his eyes. He looked like he had no emotions and the little sparkle that was supposed to be in his eyes wasn't there. He had a bloody sword in his hand and was just staring at me. His long white hair just hung in front of his face.
