Chapter 13: Allies

Y/n's POV

Gale and I meet up again after training. We're taken back to the apartment where we are gonna talk about who we want as allies and who we don't want.

"So, Y/n, almost all of the tributes saw you throwing those knives, most of them are lining up to be your ally, so you guys have the pick of the litter," Haymitch says

"Really?" I ask

"It's true, Y/n. More than half of them have requested to be your ally" Effie says. I look to Gale,

"Who do you want?" I ask him "I mean obviously we are gonna be allies, so it's not just my decision"

"I don't know, I was thinking maybe we could get on Enobaria and Brutus's good side because it seems like they know what they're doing, but I'm not sure they are looking for allies," Gale says, I thought for a second

"Unfortunately district 2 is one of the only teams that didn't request you, they aren't looking to form any alliances this year" Haymitch adds

"Okay, so that scratches them off our list. Y/n, who do you want?"

"I was thinking Wiress and Beetee maybe"

"Johanna calls them nuts and volts," Gale says

"Well, they're 2 of only 4 of the tributes that weren't looking at me like they want me dead, so I thought maybe they would make good allies"

"Who are the other 2?"

"Finnick and Mags. I'm not so sure about Finnick but Mags is sweet" 

"So, Wiress, Beetee, and Mags?" Haymitch asks

"I guess, but today is only the first day of training so I'm 100% sure yet"

"Yeah me neither" Gale adds

"Okay, I'll tell them you're still making up your mind"

"Thank you"

Later Gale and I are in my room talking about allies.

"What about Johanna? She's brave and strong, and if we can become friends with her then maybe we won't have to be afraid she's gonna kill us in the arena" Gale says

"Yeah, maybe, she would be a good ally to have. it seemed like you didn't want Mags, Wiress, and Beetee, are you scared they might-"

"Slow us down? Yeah, big time."

"I thought so, but they're both super smart and they could be helpful, and Mags, well...At least she wouldn't kill us. But she and Finnick will likely be allies, do you want Finnick?"

"I mean...I'm not his biggest fan right now, but he would be a good ally. Maybe we don't even need any allies, right? It's not mandatory"

"True. But Haymitch said that it's our best chance at survival. How about we just wait until after all the training is done to decide, yeah?"

"Yeah, that sounds good. It will give us more time to see who we can and Can't trust"

"Exactly," I say "I'm kinda tired though I think I'm gonna go to sleep"

"I was thinking the same thing"

"Stay in my room tonight?"

"Always"
