Chapter 15: The Quarter Quell

I can't find many pictures of Gale which is a disappointment, so here's Peeta instead <3

Y/n's POV

I said my next words in almost a whisper "you weren't lying"

"What? I wasn't lying about you...being pregnant?" Gale asked and I nodded "Y-you're pregnant?" 

"Yeah, I am," I said

"What? H-how?"

"Well, you see Gale when two people-"

"I mean I know how, that's just...unexpected." I thought about when I die in the arena my baby will also die and tear slid down my cheek. "I'm so sorry" Gale wiped the tear from my cheek and hugged me. "How long have you known?"

"A few days. The first day we got here I felt...off, then I realized that I'm late, I found a test in the bathroom and it came back...positive" 

"This might be good news if it weren't for the fact that we are about to go into the games and that we're 17"

"Yeah, I don't know what to do, I wanted to tell you...but it was just never the right time"

"It's okay, Y/n, in the arena I'm gonna do everything I can to take care of you and when you win, you can go home and have our baby" Gale saying this made my heart melt, but he still needs to live. I hug him again and don't want to let go. "Let's try to get my sleep now, okay?"

"Okay" He opens the covers and I lay down, he puts his hand over my stomach and slightly moves it around, I smile and he kisses me.

"I love you," He says softly and lays down next to me,

"I love you too," I say, he kisses my nose and wraps his arms around me. I fall asleep with him holding me so tightly, he's afraid of losing me and I don't want to lose him either.

I wake up and immediately start dreading what's gonna happen today. I try to fall back asleep and pretend that I never woke up but I can't, my prep team walks in and wakes us up, we reluctantly get up and are pulled away from each other. I'm given the tribute outfit for this year and I put it on. (you can decide whether you want the blue jumpsuit or the one in the movie, or you could design your own tribute outfit, it's up to you)

I'm taken to the underground place below the arena where I meet with Cinna.

"Hello girl on fire, are you ready?" Cinna asks

"Yes," I say

"Okay, so this outfit is more cool and lightweight so I'm thinking the arena might be tropics or something, but I'm not sure,"

"Okay," We hear the announcement saying I have thirty seconds left. Cinna puts the golden Mockingjay pin on me and tucks a piece of hair behind my ear.

"I'm still betting on you," Cinna says right before I get into the tube. As the tube starts to move up, I see a group of peacekeepers bust through the door and start attacking Cinna.

"NO! LEAVE HIM ALONE! LEAVE HIM ALONE, PLEASE STOP! LEAVE HIM ALONE!" I scream for them to stop, but they knock him out and drag his bloody limp body out of the room. Tears are streaming down my face and my voice hurts from screaming, I'm hyperventilating and I see a bright light coming toward me as the tube rises further into the arena. Get it together, Y/n. I think. C'mon, you need to get it together. The pedestal rises fully into the arena and I see that I'm surrounded all by water. I try to breathe steadily as the countdown goes off.

10, 9, 8, 7, 6 ,5 ,4 ,3 ,2 ,1. I dive off of the pedestal and swim to the nearest land I can see. I get myself up onto the rocky strip and start running for the cornucopia, as I near the cornucopia I see a beautiful knife set waiting for me to grab. I run up, grab the knives and secure them in my belt, I see someone running toward me so I through a knife at their ankle, I have another knife in hand and am about to through it when I see Finnick approach me. He holds up his hand and I see that he's wearing Haymitch's golden bracelet.
