Free Verse: Eulogy for the living
"Independence isn't doing your own thing, it's doing the right thing on your own." Kim John Payne
[First Stanza]
Now, normally a eulogy is something, like a trinket?
No, a memoir, the one final goodbye
But today is not death.
Today is a day to watch.
[Second Stanza]
Mommas crying because their kid got shot dead
because they were putting their nose where it didn't belong
Now the young child, a hole in their head
Rapping for the folks to hear
[Third Stanza]
Eulogy for the living
Use your lifespan while you can
Spend this time, make rights not wrongs
Be a dream chaser and a risk-taker
[Last Stanza]
Live your life how you want to
This wasn't a scolding or warning
But advice.
Take it how you may, but that was my eulogy for today.
