Free Verse: Holocaust
"We do not learn from experience...we learn from reflecting on experience." John Dewey
[First Stanza]
Aight, holocaust. By definition, it's destruction or slaughter on a mass scale, especially by fire or nuclear war. In other words, it's when a group of people try and rid the world of a minority or group of people.
A mini version of that happened in Tulsa, Oklahoma in the summer of 1921.
[Second Stanza]
1921. The Greenwood district of Tulsa, Oklahoma. The "Black Wall Street", burned to the ground. They wanted the black people gone, by all means necessary. Erased. Like they never existed. I'm not a very angry person, but nothing annoys me more than when they're all for protesting to change things and how history is going to repeat itself if "we" didn't do anything.
[Third Stanza]
So now that you're noticing it, is it starting to happen or change?
No, you're just talking just to hear yourself talk at this point. Everyone who has been saying the exact same thing has been silenced by you and your kind of people.
When things were repeating themselves, where was the energy? You were just sitting there and weren't doing anything. Now when you're actually affected by it, you have the change of heart. Why?
[Fourth Stanza]
You just don't want to acknowledge that you are entitled and believe that you don't have to put in the effort for anything to change. Either way, you aren't really a part of the progression so just move out of the way. Once in 1921 in Oklahoma, then again 20 years later in Germany. 20 years have gone by and no one has learned anything apparently? A prime example of you standing around, doing absolutely nothing.
[Fifth Stanza]
The Triple K clan has been trying to rid the world of Black people, and the Nazis tried to cleanse the world of the Jews. You can be any race or any sexuality, but know that if the wrong people find you, they'll stop at absolutely nothing to find you.
[Sixth Stanza]
Holocausts are examples of people forcing history to repeat itself over and over again. Even today with police brutality and everything that's been going on. You're killing us, over and over, but what did we do to deserve this? You and your kind act so xenophobic towards anything that's not society's typical 'blonde hair, blue eyes, cis, straight with 2 kids' white man. It's a holocaust of its own really if you take some time to think about it. I'm not really a religious person, but how are we going to be brothers and sisters of God if he's watching us do this?
[Seventh Stanza]
Out of the 7-8 Billion people in the world, things like this, holocausts, riots, protests, etc, are doing nothing but killing us. We let in people we thought we could trust, but then as we lay on the floor in defeat, they laugh. Our population's numbers are going down way faster than they are going up. The future generations are going to end up afraid of what they don't understand. Why do people like you hate us, when we have done nothing but try and extend an olive branch?
[Eighth Stanza]
It takes away people's pride and joy and overall happiness just to be here and witness everything go down. People take their own lives away from them because they don't want the burdens of the impurities of the world on their shoulders.
[Ninth Stanza]
If you truly want to stop history from repeating itself over and over again, then you personally should take a stand and show that. Not for the sake of others, but for yourself. Because of the actions of one, all must suffer. A holocaust is preventable, so notice the tension in the air and help relieve it or else our lives will be a never-ending war against each other, and the perished will suffer the consequences under the rubble and destruction your kind has caused.
(Jesus Christ this took actual hours. It's almost 4 am I am so done. This was actually really nice to not sugarcoat it for once.)
