Free Verse: wait, wrong poem
"They don't even see us when they're looking right at us." Christina Hammonds Reed
[First Stanza]
Roses are red
Violets are blue
Lions are bright
And tigers bite
[Second Stanza]
Wait, wrong poem. Sorry, let's try again
One fish, two fish
Red fish, blue fish
Wait I messed it up again, one more time
[Third Stanza]
Ah yes, here it is
Shots fired
Hi, my name is Breonna Taylor
I'm 26 years old and I am proud to say that I'm a police officer
[Fourth Stanza]
Well not anymore. You see, they pulled a fast one on me.
And now I'm here.
My body cold and stiff, the blood slowly leaving.
Spilling and staining out onto the floor.
Shots fired.
[Fifth Stanza]
What's up, I'm Tamir. Tamir Rice. I'm forever 12.
See, I came out of the gas station with some skittles
Boom, everything stopped and resumed so fast, you'd think I had met the flash.
Shots fired
[Sixth Stanza]
No, there is nobody that is going to look past this ever again
Because I want you to think about that when it's your daughter being put away for the murder of that poor black girl who was drugged and stabbed in her sleep.
[Last Stanza]
That was the right poem and no I'm not going to be silenced.
For decades and even centuries
Now we're going to rise
No more shots fired.
