It was snowing pretty heavily before I left for work, and even now I could barely see maybe 3 feet Infront of my truck. It was awful. Nonetheless, I made it to work in one piece. James had opted to go in early to avoid the storm. Which is what I should've done, but of course, Luffy decided to hold me back because "You can't go to work in this weather! You'll become a popsicle and not a tasty one!"... Jackass. He acts as if I'd be grape flavor. How rude. Enjoying the warmth of my truck for maybe a minute longer, I soon stepped out into the cold, locking my truck and sprinting to the back door.
Once I was inside I started helping James set up. All of the girls had winter-themed dresses or outfits on. Candy came up to the bar, thanking me for the other night.
"Anytime- Is that an engagement ring I see~" I hummed, gently taking her hand and looking at the ring.
"Yeah... Cracker proposed yesterday!" She squealed, obviously still having tons of excitement from the moment.
"Well congrats, I'm happy for you!"
"... Uhm, This might sound rude, but, what happened between you and kid? You guys used to be two peas in a pod!"
"Things just didn't work out, we had different goals-
"WOAH Wait! You dated Eustass Kid!?" James dropped a glass, it shattered on the floor
"Yes. I did, In high school then for a year or two outside of high school. Things just didn't work out"
"B-But you guys were going to get engaged!"
The glass in my hand slipped, bouncing a bit on the counter, I rushed to catch it before it could shatter. Candy covered her mouth, and James put a comforting hand on my shoulder.
"I- I... I'm gonna go out back and smoke real quick..." I mumbled, rushing out of the building for air. When was Kid going to Propose!? He had never mentioned marriage! He didn't even like the thought of Marriage. He didn't want a wedding, no tuxedos, no white dresses. Nothing. He refused to even consider it an option and I was okay with that!... and I lost that... I hadn't even realized that I was a good block away from the bar.
Soon enough tears began to pour down my face, the snow slapping me in the face. I couldn't take these constant reminders of what I let go of! I... I wish I hadn't moved back here... It's been nothing but hell for me...
...Bzzt... ...Bzzt... ...Bzzt...
I pulled my phone out of my pocket. Looking at the caller ID. It was Ace... I answered the phone.
"Yo, what's up?"
"Pops had a heart attack." He whispered,
"What..."
"P-Pops, He was in his chair when he started complaining about chest pains, and of course Mom... S-She, She called an ambulance and all of us thought it was an overreaction like usual! B-But it wasn't"
