Tanner, Christina, and Tanner's mom stared expectantly at her. Lily felt the embarrassment turn into hysteria. It overcame her, and she doubled over in laughter. Hyacinth, who was starting to say something, burst into a fit of giggles, loud and contagious. It grew louder as she tried to explain to Tanner's mother.
''Is everything alright, dear?''she asked, concerned.
''We're..he-ha-he..in the..hahahah...wrong hou-hahahah..house,''Hyacinth lied, taking deep braths to stop laughing.
''This neighborhood has streets that look all the same. Sorry for bothering you. Have a good day!''Lily finished for her. They turned to leave.
Lily's bike ride and Hyacinth's jogging beside her was quiet as they went home. But as a car made them stop, and they looked at each other and burst out laughing again.
''We looked so stupid,''Lily said, stopping her bike as she and her friend laughed their heads off. ''Truth be told, I was losing interest in Tanner anyways.''
''I'm glad you're okay,''Hyacinth said, her hands on her knees from exhaustive giggling. ''We still don't know who sent you that poem, though.''
''I don't have anyone else in mind,''Lily confessed, getting back on her bike.
The sun was setting and they had to get home.
Another car whizzed by, this time it came to a stop beside the girls. The window rolled down, revealing the Dunphys.''Hey guys! What should I say as my last words in case I die and you're the last relatives I see?'' Alex yelled from inside the car.
''Why's that so?"Hyacinth asked, walking to the window seat, Lily and her bike close behind her.
''Because Haley's driving! We missed death about fourteen times, we're pushing our luck today!'' Luke called from inside the car.
Phil and Claire were waving, though they looked ghostly white. Haley's driving put them through a lot.
''Stay on the sidewalk so I don't run you guys over!''Haley said, scrunching her lips in concentration.
''Why must I die before reading the end of my thriller novel?''Alex complained. Nevertheless, the Dunphys made it to Lily's house alive.
Jay and Manny were already at the Tucker-Pritchett house when Lily, Hyacinth, and the Dunphys entered. They greeted each other, though the Dunphys were still jittering from the horrible car ride experience.
There was also some tension between Mitchell, Cam, and Gloria.
''What's wrong?'' Lily asked, the mysterious love poem pushed to the back of her mind when she caught sight of Gloria's furious expression.
''I'm afraid dinner won't be ready until another hour or if it gets finished,''she said, the last parts directed at Mitch and Cam.
Everyone groaned.''Why?''
''We're having a misunderstanding with the recipe instructions,''Cam confessed. ''It's just not clear at all. There's some horrible, poetic rhyme at the end of every instruction. It doesn't make sense, but it's talking about food-''
''And it's cheesy the house!''Mitch groaned, heading back to the kitchen.
Jay, who was sitting on their couch beside the Dunphys said,''no one says cheesy the house!''
''Mom lost her temper with Mitch and Cam,''Manny said (as Gloria stomped back to the kitchen.)
''Maybe we should order takeout if we want to actually eat.''''What's with your attitude tonight?"Hyacinth asked Manny, dropping on the chair beside her brother.
Nobody else were paying much attention. ''See I was writing a poem for this older girl I like,''Manny said, and Hyacinth already tuned out. ''And it was pretty intimate, about my love for her and food, but when I sent her the poem, it was a disaster!''Manny cried. ''She read it, crumpled it up, and said I was treating her like a joke! She told me what I wrote wasn't ever a poem, can you believe that?''
