The water boiled and the vegetables were being cut as Camila Noceda prepared to make dinner for six children. One of the children had offered to help and Camila couldn't refuse after all they seem to have been through, none of them had told her anything yet but it seemed like a lot. The one that had offered to help had just finished tying her purple hair back and stood ready for command.

"Mrs Noceda?" The girl asked, a slight tint of red scattered along her face. "What do you need help with?"

"Oh," Camila thought for a  bit, all she really needed were more ingrediants which shouldn't be too taxing for the sweet cotton candy haired girl. "I just need some vegetables like peas or carrots, sweet potatoes."

The girl looked perplexed for a moment but quickly nodded heading right out the kitchen. In hind sight Camila probably should have told her the ingrediants were in the kitchen but the thought never crossed her mind. Not giving it much thought however, Camila continued cutting expecting the girl to come back soon enough, maybe she just needed to go to the bathroom.

It was Camila's turn to be perplexed when a minute later the purple haired girl returned with Luz.

"Umm, hi sweetie, what are you doing here?" Camila asked kindly though Luz seemed equally confused.

"I dunno, Amity just said you asked for me," Luz replied with a shrug.

"Didn't you? You asked for sweet potato so I thought-" realising her mistake the girl began to go extremely red.

"Awwwwwww," Luz said as Camila grew only more confused. "You don't know what sweet potatoes look like because you've never seen one."

"They're a tangible thing?" The purple haired girl, Amity asked. Luz only laughed slightly.

"Yeah, they're a food, here I'll show you," Luz explained, taking a sweet potato from  the counter and handing it to Amity.

"Ohhhhhhh, wait, we've been calling each other... this?" Amity asked a look of disgust on her face.

"It tastes a lot better than it looks, right mum?" Luz supplied, turning to her mother.

"Right, yes, it's very good in soup," Camila replied, still not quite grasping the situation at hand.

"Hey, how about you go back with the others and I'll help my mum in here, okay?"

"But-"

"You're okay, right mum?" Luz cut her off, once again turning to her mother for assurance who merely nodded.

"Okay," Amity huffed, seemingly giving in.

"Hey, for what its worth, you're a very pretty sweet potato," Luz said before giving Amity a peck on the cheek and tucking a loose strand of Amity's hair behind her ear.

"T-te amo batata!" Amity exclaimed before running out of the kitchen, face red as a tomato.

"She's just nervous," Luz shrugged before turning back to her mother who had completely stopped working on dinner and was just staring at where Amity had been. "Oh, right, I-"

"No no, Luz, baby, it's completely fine, I'm very happy for you I just didn't expect it, is all," Camila amended.

"Yeah, this isn't how I planned to tell you, it's just I'm so used to everyone knowing, also you kind of have to get used to PDA when you live in the owl house, especially when you're part of Hooty's favourite ship," Luz chuckled nervously.

"Who's Hooty?" Camila asked, a smile on her face, it was amazing to see how her daughter had flourished since she last saw her.

"He's a house demon, he basically is the owl house, actually without him I never would have asked Amity out, and King and Eda of course," Luz's smile dropped slightly at the mention of her boiling isles family which did not go unnoticed by Camila.

"How about you tell me about it?" Camila asked, rubbing her daughter's back.

"What do you wanna know?"

"Anything."

"Okay, well, it all started when I accidentally walked into the portal to the boiling isles, I was following Owlbert, and I saw Eda, she was selling a bunch of human junk..."

And on and on throughout the night, continuing into dinner where Luz's friends helped her fill in the gaps, even if the red eyed one was hesitant, though his bird seemed to encourage him. They were a lovely bunch and Camila was glad her daughter had the opportunity to meet them.
