"We need to make sure everything will be prepared in less than a year." Her father said as he sat on his office chair, the wind brushing through his hair.
I'm sorry, Isn't that so soon?
"But, father, aren't we rushing this?" The young Florence nervously stated. "We still have so much time and plus, I still have things to do that I want to achieve as the young princess of the Florence duchy, I truly hope you understand that."
His father sighed before standing up and hugging his one and only daughter. "I apologize, it's just, you're the child I deeply love and I want this coronation of yours to be perfect."
They might not be the royal family but it's family tradition that every time an heir or heiress is chosen, a grand ball should be held to let everyone know that the famous Florence duchy has a new person to be proud of.
"And who knows how much time I have left." Her father smiled sadly. "Father, please don't say that! You have more than enough time to be with us." The young lady spoke almost immediately.
"Alright, if you say so." He smiled, genuinely this time. Everyone in the family knows that he doesn't have that much time left. Considering that his illness is getting much worse every minute of the day, he tried to make sure that he can spend a lot of time with his beloved daughter.
Sorry, dear brother, I guess this convinces everyone who really is the favorite child.
Poor thing.
Author, please shut up and just get on with the story.
Roger that.
After some more talking about the preparations and the upcoming ceremony, she has decided to end this conversation. Don't get her wrong, she loves to talk and spend time with her father, believe her, but, her head is spinning with so much thoughts about this whole thing.
Everything is just too soon, really. I mean, you can't blame this poor child, Imagine being the future duchess of this whole duchy. This entire dukedom will be on her own hands for her to rule over.
I intend, she's definitely ready to be a duchess but still, who's prepared to be a ruler in less than a few months?!
"I have a small favor, father, if you will listen to me, that is," She smiled, knowing this smile of hers makes her father say yes to everything. Be it a library as big as a castle or something as childish as a unicorn.
She'll name it and he'll buy it or get it without any hesitation.
"Of course, my dear. What is it that you may want?" Her father asked. "Can we maybe extend the preparations for a year? I would like to live a little more as a princess of the Florence duchy." She spoke like a 7-year-old child.
"If that is what you desire, then, I can make it work, just for you." He laughed a little, already convinced. "Thank you very much, father." She slightly bowed her head, her smile remaining on her face for some time now.
"You sometimes act so much like me," Her father smiled once again, sitting on his chair since he's too tired to stand, again, because of his sickness. "Back then, with just one plead from my father, I could get anything I ever wanted."
"Guess we really are related, huh?" She giggled. She can be like her mother, kind and dangerous, yes, but that doesn't mean she doesn't have a side that's pretty much like her father, the all time favorite and someone who sometimes rely on begging.
Almost everyone knows why her father became the ruler of this dukedom after all.
The answer is right there even if you have a blind eye.
Favoritism.
It's a word that has been circling all over this duchy in the first place.
"Heh, I guess so too."
The young lady was signing and writing in her room for the past couple hours now until a knock on the door was heard. Who could possibly be at this hour? I mean, it's not that late, perhaps it's around 9:30 in the evening, but she was sure everyone in the manor is already sleeping.
"Come in," She gave permission to whoever this person might be to open her door. If it's some kind of human who suspiciously came in the duchy, she'll probably just invite them for tea and make them eat some cookies.
... That could be poisoned.
It depends, really.
"My lady! I'm half glad that you're still awake!" A feminine voice beamed with happiness. "Ava, you should be sleeping right now." Her master scolded a little. "I know, please forgive me for that," Her personal assistant bowed.
"But, the festival is happening right now and, I wanted to check it out so, what do you say? You can't leave your beautiful maiden all alone in the evening, you know." Her maid grinned, mostly knowing that her lady will reject her oh so kind offer.
"I want to go with you, I really do, but, I have so much to do." Viviane sighed with a sad face. "A little break wouldn't hurt, right? Plus, you have been working on those papers for so long now! You'll hurt your eyes!"
"So, want to come with me?" Her maiden asked again, making sure her voice has a little bit of convincing in them, smiling from ear to ear when the young Florence nodded. "Alright. Just let me fetch my coat and wait for me outside."
"Yes, my lady!"
Now, since they'll be going out on such a late hour, of course this whole thing needs to be kept a secret from her father for no-scolding reasons. And plus, it'll just be quick, so no one in the dukedom would notice they were even gone in the first place, correct?
Right after reaching their destination, they immediately went to play all sorts of games, won several prices that were both weird and adorable, and finally after what felt like a million hours, they finally walked away from the whole thing with cotton candy on their hands.
"That was so much fun, wasn't it, my lady?" The personal maiden smiled happily as she ate her sugary snack. "Yes, it was." The lady laughed before munching on her own dessert as well.
"They said that this festival will last for a week," Ava Brooklyn smirked. "Do you know what that means?"
The lady shook her head in disappointment.
She's so glad she extended the preparations for the ceremony or she will miss this fun outing with her favorite maiden.
"I do." She ate her last piece of candy before running as fast as she could. "Last one to arrive at the duchy has to tell my father that we snuck out!"
"Hey, no fair! Knowing how your father will react, I don't want to be burned to a crisp!"
