"I can't tell where your heart is. It's not there no more."

SEPTEMBER 2022

ROME WOULD OFTEN WISH THERE was a rehab for shit like this. One that could help with the strongest addiction of all time: the feeling of loving someone else.

Loving her was a drug. His drug. One that he was still addicted to months later. One that he didn't relapse on despite Jordan not believing him. Rome couldn't be mad though because at times he didn't believe himself either. Brent Faiyaz's Running on E blasted in his room as he laid in bed with only a bit of sunlight peeking through his blinds. He tossed the mini basketball he held in his hands up and caught it repeatedly.

Rome would be lying if he said that he didn't miss India. They went from talking to each other every day since October of 2019 just to return to being strangers three weeks shy of their one-year anniversary. He stood behind his actions when he blocked her and avoided places he knew she went like the flu. If Jordan invited him out, he would pass. Rome knew Jordan and he knew that a lot of the places his best friend went to, India like to go to. They were kind of alike and that's probably why they couldn't stand each other but only kept things cordial for Rome's sake. Now there was no more Rome and India: The Couple so Rome could only assume that the cordiality went out the window.

He would often find himself thinking about her. How does she look now? Did she dye her hair like she would always talk about or is it still dark brown? Did she finally heal or is she still outside playing around like she was before? Is she doing okay? Is she thinking about me the same way I think about her?

Rome knew he needed to stop but he found it hard to just up and forget about her. Not even if he tried and believe me, he tried. Everything reminded him of that girl. From the songs he played to the places he ate. It's crazy because he knew India most likely wasn't thinking about him. She wasn't wondering if he was okay or if he moved on. She wasn't wondering if he went back to school or started making music considering he had a whole songbook. She wasn't wondering if she made it harder for the next girl to get with him.

The whole situation was a hard pill for Rome to swallow but he refused to be hung up on it forever. While the progress in that was slim to none, he knew that one day everything they went through would be a distant memory. He knew one day he would be over India. As the song continued playing and the thoughts of her slowly left his mind, Rome had a feeling that one day would turn into today. Letting the small ball hit the carpet and pulling out his phone, Rome shot Jordan a text.

Jordan Annoying Ass

Yoooo, you still down to hit that block party?
Read 3:44 PM

Not Romero tryna come outside👀
You feeling okay
You need a doctor

Nigga come get me before I change my mind and lay back down
Cause I'm not driving myself
Read 3:55 PM

As Jordan sent him a message letting him know that he was on the way, Rome walked into his closet and slipped on his new pair of white forces since he was already dressed. Rome told himself that he would no longer care about an individual that proved that they gave zero fucks about him. Starting now.

If you walk out the door, I won't wait up for you.
