the night of misty
__________________________________________________________________
Yet again, Misty was waiting at the station. This time she was waiting on a Monday, knowing that Foster came in later on these days. She had worked out his schedule just as Colleen had.
Misty wasn't sure whether or not Colleen was going to show up, but she really hoped she would. She wanted to talk to her just one on one, and had been meaning to for a while at one of the meetings, but never got the perfect chance that she had wanted. So instead of waiting for the right moment, she decided to make one.
Much to Misty's relief, Colleen showed up at around seven, as she usually did on her Monday visits. Colleen was thrown off by her presence, and, if she had to admit, was a little bit irritated. She came to be alone on Monday's, and Misty decided to mess with her carefully pieced together order. It didn't help that she didn't particularly have a good perception of her at that point.
But Misty was here nonetheless, and Colleen had to deal with it.
When she heard footsteps, Misty turned around to face the entrance and saw Colleen making her way down the rock pile. "Hey Colleen," she called out. "I'm sorry to barge in on your time- I know it's just as important to you as it is to everyone else," she said as Colleen got closer, "but I needed to talk to you."
"It's okay," Colleen half- lied while stuffing her hands in her pockets, planting herself right in front of Misty. "What did you want to talk about?" Colleen was hoping to get this done as painlessly and as quickly as possible so she could have some time alone.
"I'd like to tell you my story," Misty said.
"Oh," Colleen said with raised eyebrows, not expecting her to say that.
When Colleen didn't say anything more, Misty asked, "Is that okay with you?"
Colleen did a sort of jolt, as if she was coming out of a daze, even though she wasn't in a daze. "Oh, yeah, of course that's okay."
"Do you mind if we talk in the train, then? Normally I wouldn't mind standing outside, but this winter's been awful."
"Sure, we can do that. I'm just so used to being out here with Foster that I guess I've become numb to it."
Misty smiled a little and shook her head as they turned and started walking. "That boy is immune to the cold, I swear."
"It seems like it," Colleen agreed.
"He can stay out here for hours without even getting chilly. It's ridiculous."
Colleen chuckled, knowing how true that was. The two girls looked like the oddest of pairings walking together- one dressed in all black while the other dressed in pastels- despite having similar clothing on. But they were similar in more ways than just clothing, so they complimented each other.
When they got in the train, Misty reached up to an overhead compartment and pulled out a cooler, revealing a case full of beer. That was a new one for Colleen.
"Is that beer?" the girl asked.
"Yeah, you want one?"
Colleen didn't respond at first, still slightly shocked. She decided that this place needed to stop surprising her so damn much. She didn't think she could handle anything else these people had up their sleeves.
Misty, noticing Colleen's lack of an answer, said, "We're not alcoholics, if that's what you're thinking."
"Well, I wasn't thinking that drastically," Colleen said, getting up from her seat and walking over to the cooler.
