1911
"Sadie!" A voice came from behind the 16 year old girl. She turned around to see her best friend, and newly boyfriend John.
"Oh god... it's you!" She gave him a small smile and started to run away from him. He quickly grabbed her before she could even get passed a single house. He planted a small, innocent kiss on her lips and smiled at her.
"As your best friend since forever I forbid you to run away from me." He said and took ahold of her hand. It was true about them being best friend's since forever. Everyone can admit to the fact they have been inseparable since before they could remember. Whenever there was Sadie, John was never far behind.
"Oh best friend huh? I didn't know best friend's made out under the bridge? I guess best friend's don't hold hands either." The girl gave him a joking smile and let go of his hand. "Now maybe all the girl's at school who look at you will finally have a chance?"
"Noo! Give me your hand back." He grabbed her hand again as they walked toward the betting shop. It had only been recently when John finally got his hat and it had given Sadie yet another reason to annoy the boy.
"I might tell Tommy how you act around me. Maybe he will take your hat and give it to me instead. I think I would make a better Blinder than you." She took the hat off the boys head and put it on her own. She proceeded to take out a cigarette and put it in her mouth and lit it. "I'm John Shelby and i'm the best Peaky Blinder there is! No one is better than me."
The boy rolled his eyes and took the hat back off her and the cigarette out of her mouth. "Hey firstly, you are never gonna be a Peaky Blinder, you will get hurt and I will not allow that. Secondly, Pol doesn't know we smoke so no smoking in the betting shop." He opened the door and held it for Sadie.
"Yes Sir" She laughed walking in. Before John could close the door Sadie could hear her sister's voice.
"SADIE!" Cassie cried out. Cassie is two years younger than Sadie but the two girl's were like best friends.
"Mum and dad... they are fighting again. This time its bad. Do you think Polly would let us stay here tonight?" The 14 year old girl was intelligent for her age and just like how the Shelby family treated Sadie like a daughter, they did the same for Cassie.
"That should be fine Cass. Come inside and I will go check with Aunt Pol." John gave the girl a soft smile when she walked into the shop. He walked away and both Sadie and Cassie sat down.
"Hey Cass, it will be okay. The Shelby's always let us stay. They love you like a daughter." Sadie said, looking at her sister. Soon after John came running back into the room and nodded to the girls implying it was okay for them to stay.
"Hey, Pol said she will being you home when shes finished working Cass. Sadie and I are just going to go for a walk but we will see you later ?" John looked at Sadie and she nodded standing up and walked outside with the boy. "You know, if you need to stay anywhere you can always stay with me right?"
The girl nodded and sighed. "Yeah I know John. Thank you." She smiled slightly and he gave her kiss on the forehead.
1914
The two, now nineteen year olds were in John's office in the betting shop doing anything but work. The two were making out when they quickly stop to Tommy's voice.
"Sadie.. you better not be distracting John again. Also i'm calling a family metting and you need to be there. We are going to war brother." Sadie's heart dropped and she looked at the boy shes been with for her entire life and realised she had lost him in a second.
"War? John... do you have to go? You can easily die. I can't lose you. You are my best friend. The person I'm supposed to marry and have children with?" John kissed her to make her stop talking and grabbed her face.
"Hey. It's only for 6 month's. I will be fine, when I come back marry me? We can have a big wedding. and then have one hundred kids in a giant house. Just me and you?" Sadie looked at him confused and laughed.
"Is that your way of proposing? Because it kind of sucked." He nodded and walked out of his office and made his way to the family meeting. She stayed in his office for a minute, thinking about what he had just said and smiled at the thought of it. She got her best friend to be her life long partner.
However, nothing goes as planned in life. and soon both Sadie and John would come to realise this.
1918
"Hi sir welcome to the official bar of london. How may I serve you today?" Sadie grabs a glass from behind her.
