Cameron
"You can't expect me to lead you straight to our base," Dane interjected just as I was to demand he do that very thing.
I glared at him, "Do you want help with your blood diamond, or do you want a bullet in your head?"
"A bullet in my head would mean you would never find ton amour," he reminded me which made the urge to shoot him right then and there become even greater. He must have seen the contempt on my face so he decided the wisest thing to do was shut his mouth.
"That's where your wrong," I added letting the silence hang a little just to increase the tension. I saw him stiffen in front of me, slowly turning to face me and in turn the gun pointed directly at him.
"How could you know?"
"That your base is at Hammond Hall?" the look of his face was one of complete shock, he didn't think I would know where his notoriously secret gang base was.
I walked closer to him pressing my gun against his chest where I was sure his heart was pummelling against, "Nothing gets past me Laurier,"
He visibly gulped, and seemed to be considering something before he turned back around and led me straight to Hammond Hall.
My grip on my pistol was firm, ready to pull the trigger at any instant, any wrong move from Dane and he would be dead in a heartbeat. I had noticed there was some faint bruising around his nose.
"What happened to your nose?" I asked just to fill the silence in the final few minutes it would take for us to get there.
He scoffed, "Your fiancé happened,"
The statement made a grin tug at my face, of course Alara had already done some damage, I was proud of her and I knew that he deserved it.
"If I find out that you hurt her, your diamond won't be the only thing that is bloody,"
His face paled at this and by that reaction I knew he had. My jaw tightened at the revelation, he was in for hell, just not yet. I was sure that even though I knew were she was being held there would be multiple security measures to get past and having their leader in my clutches would make it all the more easier.
Soon we turned from the clearing off the outskirts of the forest that was just behind Coven's Church that led to Hammond's hall.
The building was tall and made of cinder blocks though not being the most appealing to look at it did look fortified with high bars surrounding the perimeter and thick set windows that could only be bulletproof glass.
I lowered my gun ever so slightly that it was out of sight of the guard that was in front of the gates.
Dane knew well enough to pretend that everything was completely normal, "Ryan, how are you this fine evening," he plastered on that charm that he so desperately wanted to show off.
Ryan gave me a suspicious look as though he recognised me, as subtly as I could I turned my face away looking at the patch of grass beneath my feet hoping the cool night air would conceal my features for the astute guard.
"Who's that boss?" he lifted a hand to point at me and just as I had expected he too held the silver gun of a Bloodhound.
But Dane was prepared for that question, he leaned forward resting his arms on the small ledge between the gate console and the guard.
"Oh, he's just an old friend," he responded his voice as smooth as butter.
The excuse seemed to be reason enough for the guard so he nodded gruffly and pressed a button that released the doors of the Bloodhound base. The gates screeched open taking their time to separate from each other. The hiss of the chain link holding them together falling back, punctuated the cool night air.
After a moment, it was completely open I walked in as though it was completely normal for a rival gang member to go to another gang's base without a hitch. The halls were dimly lit and there wasn't many people around presumably because of the late hour. There were a few people dotted around but they all looked like they were ready to leave so I paid them no mind.
A few turns later and we were at his office, he fished out a key from his pocket and jammed it into the lock, a soft click sounded and he pushed open the heavy oak doors.
His office was far brighter than the corridors, the lighting adjustment stinging my eyes for a moment before they became accustomed to the harsh lighting. He made his way over to his desk and picked up a black landline phone, I could hear the trilling of the line for some seconds before I heard a muffled voice at the other end, too quiet to discern what was being said but loud enough for me to know that a conversation about Alara was taking place.
"Bring her up," was the final sentence spoken by Dane before he slammed the phone down.
To fill the time he asked, "So you know nothing of the Blood Diamond."
"Nothing other than what you've told me, " I paused for a moment my eyes locking with his, "How can you know it's even real?"
"Oh I know it's real,"
"Even the stuff about it bringing ultimate power?" It really did fascinate me how anyone could really believe in all this bullshit.
He nodded in response, just as he was about to open his mouth to explain further another voice echoed from behind the door.
"What the hell does he want now-"
Through the door had stormed the one an only Alara. Her voice was cut off the moment she saw me. Her eyes locking directly with mine.
She paused for a moment as though unsure if it was truly me, but only for a moment.
Once that moment was over she ran towards me, wrapping her arms around me as she pulled me closer to her.
"Cameron," she breathed her voice so very soft and so much more fragile than I had ever heard it.
"Hey darling," she melted into my arms and I felt stray tears fall from her eyes onto my shirt.
"You came," another whisper of assurance. She held me tight but let me hold her up.
"Of course I came."
