Lydia never came to my house.
I didn't know if I missed her or she just didn't show up but she didn't leave a message or anything. I texted her, wondering if she was okay but she never replied.
I was now meeting with Derek and Deaton to see if they had any insight. Scott apparently agreed to be apart of Derek's pack but only to help him catch Jackson. I was really starting to wish this shit was over already and that I could just get the girl of my dreams back.
"What's he doing here?" I asked in annoyance as Scott and I entered the animal clinic, realizing that Isaac was with Derek.
"I need him." Derek shrugged.
"I don't trust him." Scott said.
"Yeah, well, he doesn't trust you either." Isaac replied.
"And Derek really doesn't care." Derek talked in the third person. "Now where's the vet? Is he gonna help us or not?"
"That depends." Deaton said, coming out into the waiting room. "Your friend, Jackson. Are we planning to kill him or save him?"
"Kill him." "Save him." Derek and Scott said simultaneously, Scott glaring at the green-eyed man.
"Save him." Scott answered again before Deaton opened his small door to let us behind the counter. Deaton started taking out a bunch of herbs and plants in different little glass containers, all of us watching him expectantly.
Isaac leaned over the table, a small smirk on his face, "So, what are you? Some kind of witch?"
"No, I'm a veterinarian." Deaton answered, Isaac's face falling as I let out a snort. "Unfortunately, I don't see anything here that's going to be an effective defense against a paralytic toxin."
"We're open to suggestions." Derek said.
"What about an effective offense?" Deaton proposed.
"We already tried. I nearly took its head off. An Argent emptied an entire clip into it. The thing just gets back up." Derek explained.
"Has it shown any weaknesses?"
I rose my hand, "Well, one - it can't swim."
Deaton furrowed his brows, "Does that go for Jackson as well?"
Scott shook his head, "No. He's the captain of the swim team."
"Essentially, you're trying to catch two people. A puppet - and a puppeteer." Deaton said, holding up a symbol that looked like a coin with a puppeteer in the middle of it. "One killed the husband, but the other had to take care of the wife. Do we know why?" The Kanima had murdered another person. A couple in a trailer park. Interestingly, it left the wife alive to retell the story of what happened.
"I don't think Jackson could do it." Scott explained. "His mother died pregnant too, and she was maybe murdered. I think he couldn't let the same thing happen to someone else."
Isaac furrowed his brows, "How do you know it's not part of the rules? The kanima kills murderers. If Jackson kills the wife, then the baby dies too."
I nodded in understanding. He was actually kind of smart, I'd give him that. It made sense. If the rules were actually true, Jackson wouldn't be able to kill the wife because of the baby.
Scott rose his eyebrows, "Does that mean your father was a murderer?"
"Wouldn't surprise me if he was." Isaac murmured. I knew I didn't quite like Isaac but I did feel bad for him. His dad was an absolutely terrible person to lock him in a freezer and throw drinking glasses at him all for a measly bad grade.
