Chapter Fourteen: "We're Expecting"

Michael's POV

   I could see the fear in Vanessa's eyes as she looked at me after the doctor gave us the news. I know it's a little early, and possibly gonna push back my plans of proposing to her because of this event. I can wait it's no big deal of course. I don't think Vanessa wanted this to happen I know this wasn't planned stuff like this happens all the time to people we just happened to join them.  I know we can get through this obsticle together if she chooses to keep the baby, and even if she doesn't I'm not going to stop her it's her body not mine.  The doctor waited patiently for our responses I could see that Vanessa didn't fully recover from her shock.

   "Thank you for the news, doc. It's quite the surprise we weren't expecting this." I said taking leadership in this difficult situation. The doctor nodded and proceeded to get up from the swivel chair.

   "It's my pleasure. I'll give y'all some time alone to talk about this let me know what you decide if you want to you don't have to share with me."  She said turning the doorknob then exiting our exam room. Vanessa sat up and faced me her legs dangling off the side of the bed.

   "Michael, I don't what to do. I don't know whether to become a mother, or to not become a mother. This is all happening so fast!. I feel like I'm not ready for this responsiblility yet." Vanessa said. Her thoughts were running a mile a minute I could tell. I could hear her voice tremble with every word she spoke.  I looked at her I placed her palms in mine.

   "Baby, whatever you choose I'm going to be with you every step of the way no doubt about it. I'm here no matter what. If you decide to get rid of the baby okay if you don't okay. I support you." I reassured her. Vanessa, nodded I could tell I made her feel less nervous and scared. We sat in silence for a minute I could tell she was thinking hard about what she was about to do in my mind I'm hoping she would come to the decision to keep it I've dreamed of becoming a father to have my own family. If she keeps our child my dream would come true, and everything I've worked for would keep me fullfilled for life.  I can't gurantee her decision would be what I'm mentally crossing my fingers for.

   Vanessa, took a deep breath a couple times then she said her final decision. 

   "Michael...I wanna have this baby with you." Vanessa said with courage looking me straight in the eyes. I smiled and kissed her passionately before calling the doctor back in.  I signaled for the doctor to come back in to hear our final statement.  The doctor sat back down on the swivel chair, and was prepared to hear our answer.

   "Doc, we wanna have this baby." I said rubbing the top of Vanessa's hand to help calm her some more. The doctor got all excited for us again she then got up and gave us a hug.

   "Awh congrats I'm glad your becoming parents. Y'all are going to do great I can feel it. It's still early, but I want to advise you to take it easy. I'll see you back here for your check up in a month. Be safe." The Doctor said opening the door again, but this time we we're free to go home. Vanessa, got up and gathered her purse she stood by me. The doctor went out first we followed back to the lobby.

   I took my keys out of my pocket and the doctor handed me a slip of paper letting us know when our next visit was. I nodded and walked out with Vanessa to our car.  I helped Vanessa into the passenger seat and shut the door as I walked over to the driver's seat Vanessa buckled herself in loosely but enough to keep her safe in a emergancy.  I entered the car and turned it on.  I began backing out of the space where I had parked, and drove towards the parking lot exit. Once we were in the clear I drove on to the high way then drove the route to take us home.

   I was thinking to myself...Eventually we'll get married, but right now we gotta important distraction to take care of.  I'm grateful that this happened oh what a journey this will be.  Here comes papa.
