The classroom was quiet, apart from the fact that sounds of quills scratching several pieces of parchments echoed through the large room. Summer was soon to burn the air in just a matter of a few days, by which time, the older students would be elbow-deep in their exams, while the younger years complete the last few. For students between their first to fourth years, assessments were spread across a month, with a few teachers setting several papers. Similarly, the rest of the school had started their exams at the same time, but it were going to experience it for a longer duration.
Anya Zion was seated at the back of the room, blankly staring at her question paper. She had already answered the easier questions, and was switching between glaring at her peers and thinking far too hard for an eleven year old who decided that there were better things to do in life than study. Of course, the night before, she had been scolded by her best friends, but ignored their stern words out of arrogant boredom. And she was now paying the price for not listening to them.
"Psst, Potter," Anya whispered as she kicked Potter's chair. His head lifted a little and he stared up ahead, the only way she could tell that he had heard her.
But he stayed quiet and ignored her, continuing to write his answers.
"James, please," she pleaded, poking his back with her long finger. She leaned closer to him, over her table and whispered, "I need help."
"Shush," he calmly hummed to her, his eyes looking ahead as hers were. They watched as Professor Flitwick hummed to himself and scribbled on parchments. Anya guessed that he was marking their last homework, the essay that explored the rules of using magic. Usually, during exams, it was known that charms and spells were used to detect any attempts of cheating, and to prevent it. However, the first and second year students at Hogwarts were never exposed to that, as their exam periods were merely unofficial ones, but many believed that the spells were still used on the lamer exams. Phoebe had discovered that spells and charms were not used on their exams when Alexa Laurent had cheated during their Potions exam, using Kylennia's help.
Anya watched as the boy ahead sat straight, his pen swinging between his fingers as he stared ahead, watching the small professor busy away. He quickly looked down and scribbled a few words, before stretching his hand out behind him and handing her a note. She smiled as she accepted the cold sheet, unfolding it to see his answers in it. He had used bullet points to summarise his answers for each question he had answered so far, just like he would on a normal day. The dark haired female was beyond grateful for his intelligence, for she would not have to suffer a bad grade in the presence of his kindness. However, Anya suspected that soon Potter and his friends would count the number of times they had saved her from failing in class and demand payment of some sort, most likely in a manner which seemed far too impossible for her to agree to. Or ask her to take the blame for their pranks or be used as bait to aggravate their Slytherin adversaries. But that was a worry for another time, she definitely did not have any time to worry about that during this exam, especially not with less than thirty minutes left until the end.
Taking his words, as she often did in their lessons, she turned them into hers and used them to produce a rather brilliant essay that she would happily submit. She could tell that James was smiling to himself as his chubby cheeks pushed outwards, he was most likely feeling proud of himself. She ignored his arrogant nature and continued cheating with his help, while promising to herself that she would work harder in her future exams.
An hour or less later, Professor Flitwick had called the end of the exam, using magic to charm the ink in all of their pens to dry up. James immediately looked up and smiled at Sirius, before waiting for Remus and Peter to acknowledge him too. The papers were lifted into the air and all magically pulled into a neat pile at the front of the room, before gently landing on the Head of Ravenclaw's desk. Finally, the cheating Potter and Zion pair looked at each other, exchanging brief smiles before looking ahead and waiting to be dismissed.
