Yasuo didn't talk to me the whole class, he would avoid me at all costs. I passed notes and whispered to him but he stayed asleep, I did things that I could do without getting caught. I gave up. After Japanese Alright To gym class looking down at the ground, I remember this feeling of people watching me. I know it all too well. I keep walking searching for my AirPods in my pockets but I can't find them. I keep walking with my head down hearing whispers from every corner of the halls, they're talking about me. My hands start to shake, I'm losing my cool, my breath is unstable, my heart is racing, and I start to speed walk to the gym. Once I get to the doors I see Genki sitting on the bleachers on his phone, I smile and start walking towards him waiting for him to notice me. As I'm waking up he doesn't even glance at me. That's weird. I stand next to him and look down at his phone, who is he texting? I sit down next to him which startles him
When I got to the gym I saw Genki with his hands typing fast on his phone looking impassioned. I hear my phone go off and know who it's from, I smile, and I start walking towards him waiting for him to look up. I'm standing in front of him, and he still hasn't looked up once, I bend down to his level, and still nothing.
"Are you just going to ignore me too?" I ask, he finally looks up and gets startled, now I'm confused, I have gotta change the subject "how's the leg?"
"The doctor said it's a minor fractured, and that I can't play for at least a month or two," I frown and look at his leg, he takes his hands and places them under my chin and moves my head to face him "I'll be fine by the end of the month." That makes me smile.
I turn around while smiling, I look up as I walk past the girls; I can tell they're pissed. How am I supposed to make peace with being as close as I am with Genki? It would be great if we could make peace but I don't think that'll happen anytime soon.
During gym all we did was exercise, but it was still tiring enough that my legs were shaking and not being able to do large movements. By the end of class, my clothes were soaked, I took them off and threw them in a plastic bag, then tied them off. When I got out of the changeroom I saw Genki through the gym door window. I opened the door as he looked up and smiled, which also made me smile. We started walking to the cafeteria when we heard someone yelling into the office, and saw someone leaning in the doorway. He had a strong body type, one where you would feel like your hand broke just from a high five. He had a black leather jacket on, he had shiny dark brown hair that faded up with pierced ears all the way up with jewelry dangling, he looked taller than the door (does he also play sports?). I looked through the glass and saw the Vice Principal coming out of his office mad, he was holding a glass of water (but it looked like he was gonna break it in his hand) as he started speed walking towards the guy in the door frame while yelling at him, who was this guy?
"THIS IS WHY YOU ALWAYS GET IN TROUBLE! WHAT DID YOU DO?!" he was screaming which hurt my ears
"I told you once and I'll say it again, I found the girl lying in the middle of the ground so I brought her to the nurses' office so someone could help her. I did what anyone would do if that's all I'll be leaving." The person started pivoting his foot about to walk away when I saw the Vice Principal starting to walk up to him.
"COME BACK HERE KAORI!" Kaori? I start to look at him and realize that he's the one who brought me to the nurses' office, I watch the Vice Principal's hand with the glass as he starts jolting the glass up so the water would hit him
I start to move, my feet are moving on their own. I step in front of the water that was being thrown at Kaori, it hits my clothes as they instantly become soaked, the water was room temperature so it wasn't that bad. The vice principal froze, I looked down at my clothes and realized what I'd done. I looked up at the Vice Principal and had dead eyes (I can see his goosebumps and the shiver down his spine).
"Wasn't what Kaori did heroically?" I ask, I'm starting to get mad "he brought me to the nurses' office after finding me in the middle of the hall, and you're saying that's something bad?" I start stepping toward him as he starts to sweat
"No, not at all. I'm glad you're okay," he said
"Then why would you throw water at my savior?"
"Well, the thing is. There have been students who said they saw Kaori hit you then bring you to the nurses' office, so I was just trying to do my job," I tilt my head and look at the people standing in front of the office and death stare at them as well
"So you guys are telling lies to the VP for what reason? I know right now you guys are mad at me, but why are you bringing someone else down?"
"Just leave it, everyone here hates me; the teachers, students, staff, all of them," Kaori said, that made it worse
I grab the glass that was in the vice principal's hand and see there is a bit of water left, I bring it over his head and turn it all the way around on top of his head as I watch the water spill on his head, once it's empty I throw it on the ground as hard as possible I watch it shader into pieces and hear the glass shatter piece by piece as I come back to reality, I froze. Genki is looking at me confused and concerned, I look at the students around me and see and hear all of the whisperings to each other, they must think I'm a freak, I am a freak. Someone take me from this area, please. I jump, I hear something getting shattered behind me. I look behind me and see Kaori standing over a broken vase, I watch as the floor becomes wet, he looked at the vice principal with the same eyes as me
"Are we done here?" he asked, he started walking towards the door but stopped in front of me, bend down, and whispered "thank you for standing up for me" he smirked as my heart skipped a beat, he then walked out as I went blank
I look back down and see the vice principal that's about to pop, I'm scared. Someone steps in front of me before the vice principal gets too close, who was it?
"Sir, she knows her mistake. She's had a bad day, and isn't herself right now," It was Yasuo, she grabbed my arm with his firm hand "If you want to take your anger out anyone, do it on me." I got in front of him
"No, it was my mistake." I said with my head down "I apologize for what I've done, and I will pay for the glass that was broken" I bowed, keeping my body at a ninety-degree angle until he accepts
"Not only will you pay for the glass, but you will also have in-school suspension for a week," the vice principal looked around everyone who was watching us "the rest of you, go eat your lunch!" I look at Genki as he is speechless, I look down and see that Yasuo's hand is still holding onto my arm, I try to shake him off but he won't budge and holds even tighter
He starts to pull my hand and moves me the opposite way that Genki is, I look back at Genki and he's trying to catch up.
"Where are we going?" I ask, but Yasuo isn't answering, we're near our Japanese class.
My phone is going off by Genki's calls but it's hard to grab so I let it ring. We get to our class and head inside as Yasuo locks the door. I'm scared, what is he going to do? Will he hurt me? He turns around and faces me, he looks scared too.
"Tell me what is happening right now," I tell him, he looks up to the ceiling like he was trying to hold back tears
"What the hell were you thinking? Throwing glass at the ground, and putting water on the vice principal's head. Have you gone mad?" he asked, I froze and looked to the ground
"I'm...sorry" as soon as I hit those words I felt somebody wrap their arms around me, tears start to fall, and we hugged each other like it was our way to say sorry
"I'm sorry about this morning, I didn't mean to yell at you," Yasuo said
"It's alright, you have your reason for that," I tell him
"But it wasn't right. I need to tell you about Kaori and me, about our past," He said, he then let me go and went to the front of the classroom and started writing on the board "I'll start from middle school..."
