Jay is forced to go to the information session alone, but finds a few of her classmates to sit and talk with. The room is a mix between Wolves and Humans, but all are the same age. There's about 160 of them all squished together. It makes Jay uncomfortable, she needs her space to breathe, thanks.

"So, how excited are you to find a Wolf Mate?" Tatiana gushes, while looking at all the eligible 'bachelors', Tatiana was always a Wolf lover. Imagined herself in the Run since she first heard of it. It drove Jay up the wall. But she was a great friend when times were rough.

"Well, I want to be Mated to a Beta that's higher is the ranks, I want a comfortable life," said Mai. She was the 'Cute Asian Nerd' of their group, her self proclaimed title of course. It was true though, her family originally came from Japan, before the WWW (World War vs wWolves) started. The girl loved anime too, said it was part of her soul. Jay couldn't complain, any reason to watch Sailor Moon she was in, watch five seasons in one day, easy. So Mai and Jay got along well.

"Oooh you're just saying that so you can spend your days watching those cartoons of yours," Reyelle, the Barbie of the group, and that's not saying it to be rude, but Reyelle has the platinum blonde hair and the big blue eyes. She has a sports body, all toned muscle, so in that aspect I would say she's not like Barbie. Nope, she's ten times better. "You should be working out with me, you too Jay!" Jay jumps and nearly choked on the complimentary cup cake that was being provided. "Yes, both of you."

"But what about Tatiana?" Jay and Mai whine. They don't do exercise, only if they are running for their lives.

"I've already been going with her, I have been for the last three months," Tatiana sates. Her nose a little high in the air, and if she had a tail it would be wagging. It makes Jay smile at how cute she is.

"Helen told me the same thing, doesn't mean I'm going to do it though," Jay says with a shrug and goes back to eating her cupcake.

"You should listen, it's not all about running you know. It's to train for endurance. But hey, eat dirt for all I care," Reyelle sniffs and goes back to eyeing up the Wolves.

" Maybe instead of moving at all I should just lay down, that way no one can push me down," Mai thinks aloud. "Can't eat dirt if your face up too." Jay laughs until tiny tears form in her eyes, Reyelle sneers and fingers Mai. Tatiana is laughing too.

"The point of the Run is to run Mai," Collin says, and they all whip back to look at him. He's grinning like a loon, Mai rolls her eyes in annoyance. Collin is Mai's stepbrother Nico's friend (both are Werewolves, and both are in Phoenix's group).

"Maybe I will run next year, but I need to save my energy for the anime marathon I will be having after the Run. Can't be exhausted when I need to save my energy for saying up for 48 hours. Where's Nico? Mom said that I have to drive him to his Dad's after the session." Mai never like Collin much, but Collin was almost a 100% sure that Mai was his Mate. Used to boast about it at monthly Pack Meetings back when they went to Merge Elementary. Then Mai snapped an pronounced loudly that she hates higher-up Wolves and that she would rather die than be Mated to one. Collin was completely crushed, and it had gotten worse when they graduated from Merged Elementary. Collin was a lost puppy for all of middle school, then Nico and his dad moved to Vernon when Nico's dad had been Matched to Mai's mom, and then he had got better when Nico and Collin became friends, since Collin had an in on the latest about Mai. Which naturally made Mai hate Nico a bit too.

"Right, of course, Nico." Collin looked dejected at being ignored and went to go find Nico.

"Mai! Be nice to the poor boy," Reyelle chided, but Mai snorted.

"Please, he's a pain in my butt. He's a creep to boot. Did you know that the only reason Nico talks to me is so that he can leak info to Collin. It just drives me!" Mai exclaimed. They all sympathize with Mai.

"Hopefully this will be painless," Jay says finally, everyone groans is agreement.

------------

It wasn't painless, it was excruciating. They talked about, in detail, of what would occur during the mating process. Jay gagged ten times, Mai five, Tatiana and Reyelle just blushed. It was horrible.

They told them how long they would have in the preserve and the head start the humans will have. The Wolves gave catcalls (wolfcalls?) whenever they mentioned anything about Claiming. It was a shock when Jay's eyes didn't roll right out of her head. Bigger shock was when Mai didn't jump up to smack Phoenix when he made a comment about Collin claiming Mai and other inappropriate remarks that followed.

When they were done Jay was a like a zombie, she had heard, and seen (because there was a slideshow about Mating) more about a Werewolf's you-know-what that she ever wanted to know. When she got into her mom's Jimmy she sagged into the chair.

"How was it?" Her mom asks. Jay's reply was a mangled cry. "Bad then," another mangled sound, "okay very bad. I will say no more, let's get you home kiddo."

When she gets home Malone is jumping all over her. Clearly she had been slacking on her Malone-loving duties. She takes him to the couch so she can cuddle and try to forget what just happened. Tay won't let that happen though, because he's sitting in front of the TV watching hockey with a mischievous grin on his face.

"Hello beloved sister!" Tay greets cheerfully. "Did you enjoy hearing about the wolves di-"

"Taylor Fredrick! Don't you dare finish that sentence or I'll wash your mouth out with soap!" Their mom threatens. Usually Jay would snicker at Tay getting scolded, to bad she was green in the face from thinking about the end of Tay's unfinished sentence.

"It was horrible Tay," Jay says horrified. "They had pictures." Tay burst out into hysteric laughter.

"Still gonna just flop belly up?" He asks once his breathing is regular.

"No, I'm going with Reyelle and the girls to the gym tomorrow. She says that I'll be doing nothing but running till the day of." Jay flops down on the couch and groans when Malone and his pointy bones poke at her. Finally he settles, squished between the back couch and Jay's side.

"Well, at least you'll have a slim chance," Tay jokes and then laughs to himself, but stops when Jay throws a pillow at his head. "May the odds ever be in your favour." But really they never were.

Jay goes to bed that night tossing and turning. She's running from wolves that snap at her heels, their slobber flicks at her heals and their snarls loud in her ears. When she feels herself being ripped to the dirt by sharp jaws, she looks back at her captor. It's Phoenix who is pinning her down, he's in his half form, he has sharp claws and teeth, and his eyes are glowing that Wolf yellow.

"No," she whispers.
