Phoenix was impatient. He had been waiting for this day for years. Frankly, he was done waiting about ten years ago.

Yet, here he was in the cool autumn morning listening to safety precautions. It's all things he's heard his whole life. "Don't harm the humans, don't even get within ten feet of a human unless it's your Mate", "don't harm your Mate anymore than you have too", and "when the gathering howl is called you are to came back to the pack house". While his father had been lecturing the pack, Alpha Daniel was watching him. With a smirk, Phoenix wanted to snarl at him, but his father's warning to be nice stopped him.

"This is it!" Collin was a nervous bundle of excitement. He was wearing his 'lucky' shorts, the ones that won the basketball tournament three years in a row (it was actually more to do with his height and Wolf reflexes). His eyes kept flashing to his Wolf blue, his hands would flex I'm his attempt to keep his Wolf at bay. They had just went in for their Marks. Many asked for either heightened smell or sight.

"Calm down Kelton. If you keep this up you might accidentally run your mate over." Phoenix meant it as a little joke, but Collin whipped to face him with a face of horror.

"I wouldn't-!" Collin exclaimed, but he cut himself short, because he could.

"Sorry, Collin. I was kidding. You would never harm your mate." He said it with complete sincerity and Collin relaxed.

"Yeah. Hey, is it just me or does Alpha Daniel keep looking over here?" Collin asks while looking at said Alpha.

"Must be a girl he's into. Maybe it'll keep him off the humans." Phoenix said it rudely, knowing that Alpha Daniel was listening. A bark laughter confirmed his thought.

"Maybe, but Wolves don't have to wait if their Mate is a Wolf, they can be mated at any time. Mate Runs are to get Humans ready." Collin said it as if it was obvious, Phoenix stared judgingly at him. Trying to convey that yes he knows that, but it had a double meaning.

It didn't work, Collin was still confused.

"I meant humans that are already practically claimed."

"He wouldn't go after Mai, would he?" Collin looked actually worried. Phoenix rolled his eyes.

"Mai may not see that she is practically your Mate, but everyone else does. Besides it wasn't Mai he was looking at." When he finished he locks gazes with Alpha Daniel, mouth set in a grim line.

"Well, she'll see it in a few hours. Listen-" Collin says to bring Phoenix's attention back. Just as he cut off, the sound of a gun shot is heard.

The Humans have started.

"Yes, yes she will." But Phoenix hadn't been talking about Mai.

It felt like ages before it was the Wolves turn. Mated pairs stood guard, keeping the Wolves in line. June was with Jamie and both were having a relaxed conversation with Alpha Daniel. But when an Elder came out saying it was time, everyone perked up from their bored or nonchalant poses. The Wolves present were those that didn't have Wolf Mates within the Pack, it had made them a little impatient.

"And you may begin!" Phoenix's father exclaimed, and like a spell everyone shifted. Or well most did, Alpha Daniel didn't and neither did a few from his pack. But Phoenix couldn't care, because this was it! Years of waiting over.

He was on of the few that took off first, his Wolf sorted through scents trying to pick one that smelt most like Mate.

About a mile into the woods his Wolf pick up a mouthwatering scent. Apples, sandalwood and something like rain. He was off like a bullet.
