Phoenix haunted Jay's dreams, and between waking up gasping for air and training with Reyelle, she was exhausted. Was practically the walking dead. Another who didn't help much was Tay.
Tay still teased her about the Run and exaggerated horror stories. 'Jay I swear, Alpha's are absolute wolves, they will take you doggy style!' Jay had plugged her ears and tried to drown him out with singing Taylor Swift songs, but he would just talk louder. Then came the exaggerated half-truths, 'I hear Beta's are a good size, but Omega's are tiny. So if you want to have a good time, go for a Beta.' Their mom smacked Tay's head with a wooden spoon for that one. It didn't stop Tay from hounding her with weird fetishes that the Wolves have. 'This one time a buddy of mine slept with a Wolf and she would sniff at his spunk!' that time Jay did puke, and Tay backed off, for a while.
Jay was so caught up with dealing with her own life, that she forgot about the visiting Pack. It was November 17 and again Jay's precious free time was being stolen. Helen rounded her and her class friends up and drive them to the Pack House. It was there that the Pack could get a quick glance of the competitors, Tatiana and Reyelle were ecstatic, but Mai and Jay looked like they would rather eat dirt. And in a few days that may be exactly what they will be doing.
Training was hard, Mai gave up half way into the regimen to go watch anime, and Jay gave up when she fell on the treadmill. The only one that was able to keep up to Reyelle was Tatiana, but even she was looking a bit worse off.
"I don't really want to go see the Wolves, we'll get a good look at them at the Tying Ceremony," Jay whined, she was in a mood since the girls dragged her out of the house. The Tying Ceremony is the Wolves equivalent to getting Married, except that there are more people tying the knot at one time, and you consummate your bonding before the ceremony.
"Not the point, I could be Mated by then. Then how would I ogle the fresh meat coming in?" Tatiana says point-blank. It hurts Jay's brain when Tatiana is so open with her preferences, it hurts more when she talks about them being 'fresh meat'. Good think Jay doesn't have to discuss that topic with Tatiana, because Reyelle is right on board talking about how hot they all will be.
"Aren't you even a little nervous Jay? One of them could possibly be your Mate," Helen points her head to the passenger seat where Jay is sitting without taking her eyes off the road.
"Not really nervous for the reason you want me to be. Like Wolves are territorial, but why not let the Humans come see? Maybe they'll watch us rip the other to pieces!" Jay exaggerates. Helen clicks her tongue and shakes her head.
"Alpha Walker would never let that happen," Helen insists.
"Maybe, but did you know that the Belanger Pack from Montreal nearly ripped the Gordon Pack to shreds when one of the Beta's tried to pick up a Human that just so happened to be the Right-Hand's Mate? It was bad, the Gordon pack has stayed in California ever since," Mai butts in. Of course Mai knew exactly what Jay was nervous about. The Belanger Pack come from her mother's birth place, the scrap the Wolves had had almost caused for a Pack war. Jay had cousins there, and lots of them. It made her sick to her stomach to think of any of them being hurt.
"I remember hearing about that, it was bad. Did you know that the Human had been underage? That's why the Alpha hadn't staked a claim, but after the tussle the Alpha claimed her. How cool would that be to have two Wolves fight for you?" Tatiana says dreamily.
"Not very. Some Humans that got stuck between a duel don't make it out the way they had started. Some have scars and deformities because of it. It's why Humans are kept at a distance most of the time, and why this is a stupid idea, that comes right after the Run. Like who lets Wolves go wild while they chase down Humans? Idiots do, that's who," Jay says without reserve. Her nervousness probably stemmed mostly from the horror stories and facts that Tay has been spouting all over the place.
