"Bond breaking."
A repulsive shudder ran through Phoenix at the mention of the word. Phoenix once interrupted a session in his excitement to tell his father that he had met his soulmate. The cries and begs of the mated pair were things that followed him to this day in the form of nightmares. He remembers seeing A Wolf and the actual body deteriorate, leaving a weak shivering human behind. He looked void of life itself and kept repeating "gone, gone, gone, shes gone" in broken whispers.
Now the human mate, that was what terrified him the most. She was convulsing, her body unable to comprehend what was happening. It was grasping at something that no longer existed. Her mind was pushing itself too far beyond its limits, after all a bond was never anything natural on the Human's part. It was all Wolf.
See when a Wolf bites his Mate, bits of their DNA mixes in, unlike Human's old stories that it would change them to Wolf hybrids. What it does it claims their scent as the Wolf's and provides a slight telepathic link of sorts. But it's all Wolf. So when bites come in contact with wolfsbane, it becomes poisonous not just to the body but also the bond. It erodes the Human quickly, it's painful, but it's fast.
It was strange watching as the Wolf stared at the woman with a look of confusion. Like he couldn't identify the Human as his Mate. The wolf's heart stopped, Phoenix could hear it. Heartbreak, it would seem. The human finally stilled. It was almost a relief.
When Phoenix's father realized he was there, he was quickly dragged out by the arm, in a grip so painful it had left bruises for days. They had been worse than the bruise Jaylynn had left.
Phoenix remembers how sad he had been, and how he longed he to hold Jaylynn close to his chest and never let her leave. Too sacred someone would tear them apart like what had happened to that Mated Pair. So he decided to stay at a distance, but Jay had always been a sirens call and he was a weak Wolf when it came to her.
Phoenix looked deeply into Jaylynn's face and saw the same fear he had when he first witnessed bond breaking. Jaylynn always put up a good facade of hating wolves. But Phoenix has been watching her for so long, that he knew that wasn't true. He saw it in the way she would watch her older brother and his wolf mate. At the look of longing, and maybe a little hope that one day she too, could have what they have.
"I will never allow anyone to be that close, I am the only one allowed to touch this mark-" pausing to rub his thumb over the freshly made mark, and echoed a shiver when Jaylynn quivered beneath him, "And I sure as hell, won't let them take you from me. Over my dead body!" Phoenix snarled. Jaylynn shivered and let out a couple of sobs before she wrapped herself around him and arched herself into him. Phoenix couldn't help the moan he let out, finally, he could feel it, feel her. There, in the corner of his mind, he could feel her need for him to hold her close until there was no definition of where he started and she ended.
"Don't let him touch me again," She whispered into his chest. Phoenix nearly roared at the thought. Jaylynn was his, no one had any right to touch her. Least of all, to those with ill thoughts.
"Never." Phoenix tightened his hold and kissed Jay into willing plaint silence, broken only by the need for breath and the pants that followed.

Jay had never quite felt like this before. Safe, protected, especially in the arms of Phoenix Walker. Yet, here she was, laying in the dirt with with him. It was strange, the whole day was very strange. She woke up this morning, hating everything there is about Phoenix, and Wolves, and his stupid dad, to being half way Mated to a Wolf.
"Just so damn bizarre," Jay mumbled and cuddled closer to Phoenix's neck. Which caused for him to shiver, very nicely may Jay add.
"What is?" Phoenix asked, though it was slightly muffled because his mouth was on top on the juncture between Jay's neck and shoulder.
