005 - Madness

I stayed silent. We bought tickets and found a place to park. Peter put two pillows and a blanket on the hood of his car so we could watch it from there. He opened my car door and helped me climb on the hood then he sat next to me. I didn't speak a word. I was looking for Jeff and I spotted him but the second I did the movie started. I needed to know where I met Peter.

"Peter, have I met you before? Like in a hospital?" When I asked the last part he looked shocked but I could tell he knew something.

"You remember?" he seemed relieved and almost happy

"Not much just seeing you in a hallway and me crawling through a tunnel"

"This is going to be a lot to take in but you have to listen, ok?"

"Okay...tell me"

He gripped my hands in his and finally spoke

"Me and you met at a lab in Hawkins. A lot of bad things happened there that I don't want you to remember. We escaped through a tunnel and when we made it in the woods I erased those five years of torture, for your happiness. I left you alone for several years so they couldn't find you and to make it harder for your nightmares to come back. And I hope you can understand why I did it. I wanted you to have a happy and fun life without the trauma nagging at you."

He was staring at me. I was still taking it all in.

"I do understand why and I'm not mad but what made you come back?"

"I live in my old house and no one knows except me. I saw you one day from the window and I know you saw me too but I kept watching and then the boy started giving you problems. I fought against my thoughts if I should help you or not but thankfully Eddie came along. Since that day I've been watching you, protecting you. I made a promise when we escaped that I would always protect you"

"That's why you only appeared when I got scared but why did you become my friend if it could cause me to remember everything?"

He paused for a long time. Like there was one more thing he was keeping, something way more important.

"I didn't want to be your friend"

"Well that hurts"

"Tiffany, if I tell you this, promise me you won't overreact and that if your memories come back you'll let me help you through it."

"I promise" I was scared. What was he about to tell me?!

"We were in love, only you and I knew. If anyone found out they would tell papa, a bad man."

Papa, 001, 017...

"001?"

"You remember" His expression changed to the one when I first asked him

"Not the trauma. I remember me and you, some of it" I partly smiled at him then thought of something "did we ever...umm..you know.."

"What? No! no..it was bad enough we snuck down to the basement and make out"

"Wait, I had my first kiss?"

"Wait, am I the only guy you've kissed?" He started laughing

"No...that would be ridiculous" I'm a bad liar.

"I know when you lie"

"I know we never broke up but could we start the relationship over? This time we can do whatever we want, it doesn't have to be secret, we can be a normal couple!" His face lit up

"I would like that very much but let me do this properly. Tiffany, will you be my girlfriend? Be mine?" He asked not breaking eye contact

"Yes I will, only if you can hold on to one more promise"
