I woke up to the sound of the most irritating noise in the world.
An alarm clock.
I groggily turned over to see what time it was. At first it was blurry but then the numbers came into view. It said:
8:15
Oh.
"Oh shit!"
I panicked. I was late. I could, not be late I would make a bad impression! I quickly got up grabbed a pair of black skinny jeans, black tank top, plaid button down shirt, combat boots, and some underwear.
I ran into my decent bathroom, undressed, and jumped in the shower. I didn't have time to enjoy the warm water though. When I was done washing I quickly dried off and put on my clothes.
After I brushed my teeth I took time to look at my self in the mirror. My chocolate dark skin looked weird under the bathroom light. As I put my curly, untamed hair into a pony tail I looked straight into my hazel-green eyes. I noticed that they had little gold specs in them. I looked just like....just like my mother.
I missed her so much.
But there was no time for this. I grabbed my book bag made sure that I had all my books, papers, and my school schedule. Yes, I said school. I packed a silver knife and lunch money in my boots just in case and ran out the door with my stuff. I ran down the stairs of the apartment building and sprinted out the door.
I took a glance at my watch and saw that it was 8:40 am now. I can't believe that I was going back to school. After I got to this world I realized that I needed a place to live and something to do with my life since I couldn't go around killing supernaturals. I got a part time job at a really nice restaurant (and it pays really well) and apparently people pay you to exorcise their houses of ghosts; they give you a lot of money.
With both jobs I was able to buy a decent apartment that was one mile away from a school. I realized that even though I've been homeschooling myself I have missed out on a lot of education, so I decided to join high school. Also it's illegal to be seventeen and not in school so, yeah.
And now I'm late.
I came to a stop at a large three story building.
Malcolm High School was the name. I looked at my watch again
8:46 am.
By the time I got to class I would have at least thirty minutes left of learning. I quickly made my way to the front office where I could sign in and get another schedule (just in case I loose the first).
I stopped in front of a desk where a middle age woman was sitting, typing furiously on her computer. As soon as she saw me she stopped what she was doing and gave me a warm smile.
"You must be the new student." She said.
"Yes, and....uh, I'm late." I said breathlessly.
"Mmhm. What is your name?" She said as she turned to her computer again.
"Ayana Kajembe."
"Interesting name....yes! Here you are."
She printed out another schedule, pulled out an ID for me, and handed them to me.
"Thank you."
Just as I was about to leave she called my name again.
"Um, Ayana!"
"You can call me Birdie." It was my nickname. Mom thought it was cute.
"Okay, Birdie. I need you to fill out this paper."
