"I want a Sunday kind of love. A love to last past Saturday night." And I awake on this beautiful Sunday morning in Eddie's arms. It seemed to me that Eddie had been awake for a while before I woke up, but chose to stay where he was to not disturb me. This morning, however, felt off, somewhat different. I jumped up expecting the sky to be dark, as it usually was at 6am, but it wasn't dark so it wasn't 6am. "What time is it?" I ask, sounding somewhat scared, I've never not woken up at exactly 6am. He got up, sitting beside me confused, and checked his wrist, "It's early, 8am. What's wrong?" I couldn't believe it! Was my cycle broken? Was I freed from a life of always waking up early? I chuckle, "Nothing is wrong at all, Eddie!" I calm down a bit, "I'm just a bit excited, that's all." I felt all this energy in my body, a satisfaction I've never felt before. Like what happened last night solved all my problems, a hole filled. I hugged Eddie really tight and he hugged me back chuckling, "Whoa, what's this for, Williams?" I smiled into his shoulder still holding the hug, he never pulled out of it. "For most of my life, I've never been able to sleep past 6. Thank you, Eddie," the genuine sound in my voice let him know I wasn't joking and he hugged me a little tighter.
The door suddenly opens, both Eddie and I jump to our feet, Eddie grabbing the broken beer bottle again. "What were you guys doing?" Steve asks and I wonder just how much he saw. Everyone looks at us, our messy clothing, bed heads, and the skull ring indent I had on my arm. I clear my throat, not answering and brushing my hair out with my fingers. Eddie puts down the beer bottle and straightens out his shirt, also trying to brush out his terrible bed head. I try not to laugh at his attempts, Dustin breaking the silence by holding up grocery bags, "Delivery service!" He sets down the food, Eddie grabbing a cereal box and two yahoo bottles, giving one to me. "So we got some good news and some bad news. How do you prefer it?" Dustin says, everybody watching as Eddie and I shove our breakfast down our throats, "Bad news first," we both say at the same time, Eddie continues by himself, "Always." Everybody pauses, sharing the same look of confusion and embarrassment, wondering what had happened the night before. "Alright, bad news," Dustin says, "we tapped into the Hawkins PD dispatch with our Cerebro, and they're definitely looking for you." Eddie looks towards him and then towards me. "Both of you," Max makes it clear that I was also being looked for, "Some cops in town saw Lori driving your van yesterday and thought it was fishy." I let out a groan, hanging my head down. Dustin continues, "Also, they're, uh, pretty convinced you guys killed Chrissy. They think Lori was an accomplice or something." Eddie and I share eye contact with each other, eyes wide. "Like, 100% kind of convinced," Max adds, I felt Eddie's mind tighten with anxiety, mirroring onto me. "And the good news?" He asks, hoping something will make him feel better. Robin cuts in, announcing, "Your names haven't gone public yet. But if we found out about you, it's a matter of time before others do too. And once that gets out, everyone and their shallow-minded mother is gonna be gunning for you." We both look down to the floor, the group looking with a worried expression. "Hunt the freaks, right?" Eddie looks up, a blank expression on his face, a numbness passes over him. "Exactly," Robin answers. I dive into his mind, it was painted with worry and a scared feeling for both of us. But also, hidden, was a sense of betrayal from the police, that they decided we were killers. I wipe the blood, spreading it onto my hand."So, before that happens, we need to find Vecna, kill him, and prove your guys' innocence!" Dustin says, with such confidence and ease. Eddie was not too convinced, however, feeling more uneasy as the group kept talking, "That's all Dustin? That's all!" Dustin smiles at him, answering very calmly, "Yeah, no, that's pretty much it!" We stop for a second and let Eddie absorb the knowledge, get past the freak-out phase. "Listen, Eddie, I know everything Dustin is saying sounds totally delusional," I add, working towards calming him down, "but we've actually been through this kind of thing before." We all smile at him as he scans the room for reassurance. "Yeah! I mean, they have a... a few times," Robin cuts in, explaining the situation,"and... And I have once. Mine was more human-flesh-based and theirs was more smoke-related, but the bottom line is, collectively, I really feel like we got this." Again, we all give Eddie a smile of reassurance, slowly making him feel better about the problem at hand. "Yeah, see, we usually rely on this girl who has super powers, like Lori, but more effective, no offense. You see she can, like, move stuff with her mind, while Lori can do stuff to your mind," Steve says, making me feel a bit more useless in this world, "But, uh, those went bye-bye, so..." He stops, finally, Eddie's expression growing more confused by the second, noticing my disappointment with what Steve had said. "So, we're technically in more of the—" everyone scrambles as they try to explain what we have going on right now. Max comes up with the perfect answer, however, "Brainstorming phase." They all agree with her idea and watch as Eddie gives off a look of disappointment. "There's nothing to worry...about." Dustin says and Steve scoffs, "At least we have Lori." Eddie's face does not give off the look of hope we were all looking for, I feel a bit hurt, but our conversation ends as we hear distant sirens approaching. "Shit!" Robin says, "You two! Tarp!" Both Eddie and I scramble around, getting under the tarp and covering ourselves completely. The sirens get closer and Eddie's anxiety rises, he starts bouncing his leg. I try to comfort him by placing my hand on his knee and he smiles weakly at me. The sirens pass us by, however, heading off further towards the trailer park. I got up, threw the tarp off of us and stepped out of the boat, breathing deeply, focusing. I had read the mind of the Sheriff, picturing him in my head and seeing his thoughts. I close my eyes and start seeing certain sentences pop up in my vision. "Another death, the name Fred pops up, Nancy, and," I focus as more blood drips from my nose, "the trailer park, it was all near the trailer park!" I exhale deeply, holding my head. It was hard for me to read a mind so far away and get that much information. "How did you do that?" Eddie points at me, looking around, "How did she do that?" As we all calm ourselves down, Steve walking back and forth terrified for Nancy, we stop for a moment. "It's simple, Eddie," Max sighs, "Lori just read the sheriff's mind, basically seeing what he is thinking and all." Eddie laughs maniacally and looks at me with crazy eyes, impressed with my work. I blush and smile, it's been a while since anyone has appreciated what I have done. Nobody else, however, is the least bit proud or excited about my discovery, although I do not expect them to be since it is a pretty common occurrence. As the group left and made sure we were safe, our Sunday had become completely ruined. With the slow descent of the sun, the Sunday kind of love faded along with it. Tonight, we slept back to back, unknowing of what terrors will meet us the next day.
