An arm reached out to me as I stood two steps up the ladder, grabbing my jacket and pulling me down, it was Eddie's. "Lori?" Dustin's voice from the roof echoed. Eddie pushed me into the side of the trailer, grabbing my cheek, "I want you, Williams, so bad." I stared at him in shock, the way his lips so smoothly released those words and how I completely melted when I heard them. "I'll be a minute, Dustin. Eddie's looking for something he lost an-" before I could finish Eddie's lips met mine, taking my breath away as he deepened the kiss. It felt so perfect, making even the most terrible place seem so light and pure. His hand moved down to my neck, pushing me into him more as the world seemed to start revolving around our two bodies. Like all the planets, suns, and moons now orbited around us only, sharing a moment we knew wouldn't last. The fear of losing each other only made the kisses we shared more passionate as Eddie began holding me tighter and quietly moaned. He pulled away to breathe. "Eddie..." I started but he cut in with heavy breaths. "Lori, I....really like you...and...well, shit happens. Who knows who will make it out alive, ya know? So..." his voice trailed off as he looked into my eyes, swooning over the sight. He went in for more because how could we ever have enough? It was just meant to be, a fire ignited in us from the moment he almost hit me with his van. How could you make it all worthwhile in such a short amount of time? How could we fit years of love and excitement into one day? How could you say goodbye? "You are incredible," He said, pulling away, his hand lowering to hold my waist closer. We heard Dustin's footsteps grow nearer, his mumbles of curse words getting louder. Eddie didn't want to let go, I could see the hesitation. I felt it in his heartbeat and body language, but also read his thoughts. I could feel the strength he was using not to break down in my arms and give into his desires. His hand grasped the wood plank next to me and his other hand caressed my waist, his eyes looked at me with anxiety. His hand moved up to my face as he chuckled deeply and wiped the blood dripping from my nose as I became lost in his thoughts. We shared a quick smile before Dustin stopped walking, alerting both of us. Eddie groaned quietly and looked up, pulling away from me, "Henderson, get your ass back up there! We found it." Eddie pulled out a random cord from my pocket and showed it to him as we both made our way to the roof. "What were you two looking for, a needle in a haystack? We gotta be quick!" Dustin plugged in a few cords and got the guitar set up for the distraction.
I watched in anticipation as Eddie and Dustin waited for the perfect time to start the music. Dustin held a walkie talkie in his hands as we all stood in a triangle, awaiting a call we hoped would never come. The rattle of the talkie in Dustin's shaking hands grew louder as more time passed, his breathing becoming heavier than mine. I looked up to Eddie as he placed his hand on Dustin's shoulder, I placed mine on the opposite one to comfort him. "It'll all work out, Dustin. You have me, I'll be here to protect you," I whispered quietly, leaning into him a little more and Eddie smiled weakly. Dustin had always felt like a younger brother to me, he had that effect on people. I remembered how much we used to hang out and how close we had gotten, he is someone that makes it hard for me to leave. It had set in for me just how much I loved these people, how much strength it will take for me to disappear from them. Nevertheless, a voice spoke on the talkie and my heart broke a little more. "She's in, move onto phase three," Robin's voice echoed through the talkie. A shudder ran down my spine and I could feel the uneasiness in the group. Dustin answered, "Copy that. Initiating phase three." My mind blanked, I had forgotten that Eddie would play a song. However, I was surprised he had learned it in such a short amount of time. The song had aired only 20 days ago, but Eddie was a skilled guitarist and I would soon be humbled by his talent. Master of Puppets was his choice, he wouldn't shut up about it in the boathouse, talking to me about the chords and playing an air guitar while singing. A much simpler time, when we enjoyed the long days and restful nights. "Let's hope they hear this," Dustin said as he plugged the amplifier to the extension cord, a rushed tone in his voice. It was apparent that everyone was on edge, the sweat on my hands made it hard for me to help as I kept dropping whatever I picked up. A nod in both Dustin and Eddie signified the beginning of the end. "Chrissy, this is for you," Eddie said as he pulled the guitar pick off his neck, his mind filled with the images of her lifeless body on his trailer floor and his eyes closed forcefully. He yelped as he played the first chord of the song, a flood of memories from that night in the boathouse filled both our heads. He played it so easily, so amazingly that I was drawn to watch in awe. The surroundings seemed to favor him as the lightning cracked at the perfect time, shining a red glow onto his body. The way he held the guitar so comfortably and played with such ease only made me like him more. A sort of appeal towards him grew as the music played in my mind, coloring it so beautifully with every chord. Dustin's head bobbed to the tune as Eddie continued, what a sight to behold of true beauty. My head turned as I felt a disturbance, an anger flowing over as the bats became alarmed by the noise. I turned to Dustin, "It's happening." I felt as the anger grew, a large swam came towards us, just slightly breaking into view from far away. Dustin's head still bobbed to the music, I watched as he mouthed the words before picking up the binoculars and seeing the swarm too. "Eddie!" He yelled and Eddie looked over, "We gotta lock down in T-minus 30 seconds!" Eddie nodded and started to wrap up, moving over to the solo as Dustin started counting down. Watching as Eddie shredded the guitar, his hands moving so quickly and naturally on the frets and strings, I was overtaken with a complete and utter attraction. Maybe it was the fear in me, maybe it was love, but it seemed so strong and developed now. The hair on my arms stood up as I soaked in the music, the way the sound echoed throughout the upsidedown. The flap of the bat's wings was washed out by the volume of the amplifier, so much so that I completely forgot about the army heading towards us. Then suddenly, it stopped. Eddie looked towards me with a smile as he pulled me off the trailer, pushing me in front of him. He guided me into the door and slammed it shut behind us. The only thing left to do was celebrate as I began a shocked but relieved laugh. We all panted as we rested on the walls behind us. "Dude! Most metal ever!" Dustin screamed as the two jumped up and down like maniacs in front of me. "Pretty badass, right Lori?" He added as Eddie caught his breath. I smiled widely watching as the two stared me down awaiting my answer. "Is that even a real question? That was beyond badass, Musnon," I punched their shoulders and went in for a group hug. "They are safe," I thought to myself, "thank God they are safe now." But a deeper voice took over my thoughts, one that I recognized but didn't welcome.
"You thought you could get rid of me, Seven?"
