"Have you guys seen Beomgyu?"
That's something Yeonjun never thought he'd hear coming from Huening Kai's mouth. Kai looked like he was about to cry—like, actually cry. His nerves didn't seem to calm even as Taehyun comforted him and asked him about the details.
"I don't know where he is; he was here this morning and during classes and then he disappeared and—" Kai inhaled shakily, hand clutching at his hair, "—and he didn't come back and I'm so fucking—I.. I don't know what to do. We've been looking for half the lunch time and we still can't find him."
Yeonjun saw the way Taehyuns expression blanked before he focused on rubbing circles on Kai's back. Yeonjun knew what happened when Taehyuns expression blanked. He was jealous. Jealous of what, though? Jealous of Kai's immense care for Beomgyu? What does he have to be jealous for? What does he have to be jealous at?
"Maybe he went home?" Taehyun suggested.
Kai shook his head, "Beomgyu doesn't do that. No matter how much pain hes in, or the situation, he won't go home during school hours."
Yeonjun physically felt the word why hang at the tip of Taehyuns tongue before Kai got up again. "God, I.. uh. I have to leave. I've gotta find Beoms."
There's goes Taehyuns expression again. "Can we help?"
No. "I mean.. it'd be helpful. Yeah." Kai says, teetering from side to side. He smoothed a palm over his hair to fix it back into place, "I'm gonna go look for him now. Um, bye."
Taehyun doesn't have the time to say another word as Kai spins on his heel and walks right out of the cafeteria. Yeonjun crosses him arms and glares at his friend. "You're jealous."
"I—" Taehyun furrows his brow, "fucking what?"
"You're jealous. Why? Is it because Kai's so worried about Beomgyu?"
"I'm not jealous, Yeonjun."
"You get mad when you're jealous and your expression falls, too. So, yeah. You're jealous."
"No I'm—yknow what? Nevermind." He doesn't miss the smug look Yeonjun tosses at him. "Let's find Beomgyu."
Yeonjuns quick to deny, "What? No. That's their problem."
Taehyun grips his wrist. "Yeonjun. Did you see how worried Kai looked? We're both going to look for Beomgyu, whether or not you're on bad terms with him."
That elected a drawn out groan from him as Taehyun pulled him away. "I'll go with Kai. You just.. look at the second floor or something." And then Taehyuns gone.
Great. Just great. Leaving his best friend alone for a crush, isn't he? I don't understand that man. He sighs, dragging himself up the stairs and onto the second floor. Why would Beomgyu even be up here? There's no way he'd be hanging around this place; especially since the second floor was strictly for underclassmen—wait.
There was another flight of stairs on the second floor? Huh, he thought, maybe he's up here. And as he takes tentative steps up the stairs, he realizes. What the fuck is he going to do if Beomgyu really is up here? Shit. He hadn't thought of that.
But it's too late already. He's already got his hands pushing open the door he found at the top. When he's met with the sunlight and soft sobbing, Yeonjun knows he should've backed the fuck out the moment he thought of it.
So as he stands, frozen, staring at a crying Beomgyu attempting wipe away his tears, he really, really regrets coming up to the roof.
Yeonjun watches as Beomgyu lifts his head and blinks through his bangs, lip quivering as he curls himself up into a ball.
