Natasha had noted Amberley's silence all morning. She had stood staring solemnly into the mirror whilst they had helped her to dress in her wedding gown and pin her hair into an intricate style that complimented her features.
Securing the necklace around her mistresses neck, Nat looked at her reflection in the mirror, the bride's eyes meeting hers. "Ladies, leave", Nat instructed and they nodded, Amberley catching Peggy looking back at her as she walked out. "How are you feeling?"
Amberley's eyes cast themselves down to her lap. "Nervous - he may change his mind and decide to marry Lady Carter instead"
She knew Peggy had spent last night with the King. For one she'd seen her heading towards his bedchamber when she thought that everyone was asleep. Amberley had not been and had heard her pass by her rooms, opening the door quietly and seeing her lady in waiting round the corner, down the hallway that led to Steve's room.
"He won't..."
"But I would not blame him if he were to..."
The last few weeks had been a whirlwind of preparations for the upcoming nuptials, dress fittings and adjustments. Amberley had been allowed to choose the flowers to decorate the chapel, look over and have some input into what would be served at the wedding breakfast.
Steve had approved of her decisions so that was one thing that settled her mind somewhat.
Either that or he was choosing his battles with her wisely.
Her hands could not keep still in her lap, and now she stood up and began to pace her bed chamber. Last night had been her last night in there before she would take up residence in the Queen's bedchamber. A room that she was yet to see.
Tonight she would be in the King's bed...and that thought scared her more than anything.
Of course Amberley had been told exactly what to expect from the governess who had educated her. After all, her mother had died when she was young and had not been there to talk her through what would happen.
All she knew was to expect pain, and to do whatever her husband asked of her.
"What if I cannot please him? If I...I can't give him the son that he wants?"
Natasha could see that she was stressed and set her down on the end of the bed. "You will, there is nothing to it when it comes to pleasing him. Just lie there and do as he asks, which will not be much. He knows that you are...well...you've never been taken to bed".
Amberley looked at her. "Is it as bad as everyone says it is?"
Nat shook her head with a smile. "No..." It was no secret between her and Amberley that she had been with a man before. Bucky being just the one. "But you need to relax, and I promise you that you will enjoy it, especially once you become used to it".
"Will he though?".
"Men always do no matter what". Nat told her truthfully. "I'll be helping you ready for bed anyway, the others too but you can always send them away if you have to - in a few hours you'll be the Queen after all".
Amberley nodded.
She was unaware of when her coronation would take place, however the first thing to do was to actually make it through the wedding.
The sooner the day was over with the better.
There was a knock at the door and Natasha opened it, seeing Sam stood there. "Is she ready? Steve wants me to accompany her down the aisle".
At this point Nat was replaced with Amberley. "You can tell him that I will walk myself - only I get the privilege of giving my own body and soul away to him in marriage. No one else".
