Everyone knew their parts. Every single song had been rehearsed more than a thousand times. The design department had finished everyones costumes and every backdrop had been painted and was ready for the big day. The university's drama club was more than ready to perform their rendition of Stephen Schwartz's WICKED.
Except the fact that Izumi still screamed from the top of her lungs, when she was lifted into the air with the flying system.
Miss Lee was slowly freaking out. Whenever Izumi was clicked into the system and her feet slowly lost the ground beneath them, she would let out an ear-piercing scream and flail her arms around in fear of falling down.
"Izumi!", Miss Lee let out angrily, throwing her clipboard on the floor. She ruffled her own hair and looked at the young actress in the air. "Stop with the drama and sing! You knew you would have to fly, when you auditioned for Elphaba!" Miss Lee glared at the young woman and Izumi pressed her lips together. "I can't!", she whispered and Miss Lee groaned.
"Put her down" she said and rolled her eyes. "If you don't even try to sing up there, you don't have to play Elphaba anymore. Think about it!" She looked into the air and Izumi sighed. She let down her head and looked at Donghyuck and the rest of the Ensemble that were looking up to her.
Donghyuck wore his pink Glinda suit and had hair rolls in his hair. He looked up to her with an encouraging smile. "You can do it" he said and smiled. Izumi sighed. "I'll do it, Miss Lee" answered the young woman and Miss Lee nodded. "Finally!" She picked up her clip board. "We start from Glinda's 'I hope you're happy'" Miss Lee said and nodded towards the tech crew, to start the playback.
Izumi was put down on the ground and got ready for her and Donghyuck's conversation part of Defying Gravity. Donghyuck smiled at her and nodded. "I hope you're happy" he sang, his beautiful voice filling the auditorium, "now that you're choosing this." He looked at Izumi with a sad smile on his lips.
"You too" Izumi answered, "I hope it brings you bliss" she continued and grabbed Donghyuck's hands. The two of them were exchanging friendly smiles and continued singing together. "I really hope you get it. And you don't live to regret it. I hope you're happy in the end" they sang the high note together and their voices harmonized beautifully, making Miss Lee smile.
"I hope you're happy my friend" they finished singing together and Donghyuck slowly let go of Izumi's hands. The girl took a deep breath and tried to concentrate on the song. She felt her body slowly levitate.
She had eight beats to collect her thoughts and get used to flying, before she had to belt out the bridge of the song. She knew everybody was staring at her, hoping for her to get it right this time, so when it was time for her to open her mouth, she did.
