"So everything is in order?" Henry asked Sievert. The man technically worked for Alexander - he was the head of Alexander's coordination and logistics division - but both men understood that Henry was the brains behind this particular operation.
"Yes sir," Sievert replied. "The only outstanding item is that we still haven't been able to track down Martinez."
Henry rubbed his forehead. Why was it so difficult to track down the Chicano mama's boy and his ragtag band of idiots?
"We did confirm from gas station surveillance that your son is with them," Sievert added.
"I don't have a son," Henry replied swiftly.
"We confirmed that Carter is with them," Sievert corrected.
Of course he was. The boy couldn't survive unless someone took pity on him.
"We tracked down Rin Kimura's parents like you asked," Sievert continued. "They're currently visiting her grandparents in a rural village in Japan. We could have someone pick them up, but it looks like the communication they have with their daughter is limited. It will probably be difficult to get a hold of her to even let her know we have them as hostages. Kyle VanNess's parents are a better option. Divorced - they both live in Massachusetts. They reported him missing. We don't know if we have any way to contact him through them. But they would be much easier to take into custody."
Henry shook his head. "We only have three days left. It's not worth it at this point. But keep looking for Martinez and the boy. I want them both brought to me, alive."
Sievert nodded and exited the room swiftly.
They would find them eventually, Henry assured himself. Sievert had someone checking every pharmacy for reports of stolen Zoloft. According to Rob, there was no way Carter would make it this long without his meds, yet again proving how weak the boy was. But despite that, Henry still wanted him back. Even if he didn't deserve the title of his son, Carter still belonged to him.
His number one target was Martinez though. There wasn't enough time for the former assassin to disrupt his plans, which was comforting. But Henry wanted to watch him die. Martinez had the nerve to try to ruin his perfect Ashlyn. He wanted to lodge a bullet in the man's brain for even thinking she could be his.
Or he could make Ashlyn do it. How satisfying would that be? Watching her prove how devoted she was to her father, and how insignificant Martinez was. Her former fling would undoubtedly try to convince her to turn against him, but Henry knew who Ashlyn would believe.
"Your daughter is awake," his secretary, Melanie, informed him.
"Thank you." He had instructed her to cancel all his appointments for the morning. Ashlyn was his top priority right now. It was time for her to understand what he was doing. They were on the precipice of a new world order, and he wanted to make her part of it.
