Truth is, I couldn't have come to Duskwood, even though I want to that night. I live half the world away and could never had made it in time. I had only said I would as a way to buy some time. To keep the others from going. I never thought Jake would leave the safety of his hidden location to go to the mines. Heck, I didn't even know that he was anywhere near Duskwood. It made sense though. He would want to be nearby. He wanted to be there, even if just in the shadows, to see his sister safe. She is one of the few people who knew his true face.
Today is the day. I am finally headed to Duskwood for the first time.
MC stretched and slowly stood up from her bed. Her stomach was full of butterflies and her mine was full of thoughts. What would they be like? Would they like her in person? After all, they had only known her through texts, photos, and the occasional video chat. There was no time for these doubts, today was the day. She had to get ready for a long day of travel.
It would start with an hour drive to the airport and then a 12-hour flight to Zurich. MC had never been out of her country, let alone on such a long flight. The day was going to be full of new experiences. She had packed last night not trusting herself to get everything together in the limited time available in the morning. After a quick shower, she dressed in a comfortable but nice outfit preparing herself for travel. She even wore shoes that were easily slipped on and off as she knew there were going to be security checks to go through.
She zipped her toiletry bag and threw it into her suitcase. That should do it. She was ready for this adventure.
MC (in group chat)
"Hey, you all! I am in the plane. It will be taking off in just a few minutes."
"Can't wait to finally meet you!"
Lilly
"We can't wait either!"
"Tell us as soon as you land."
Dan
"I got a bottle of whiskey I have been saving for just such an occasion. Promise you're going to drink it with me!"
MC
"Ok, but no one is driving afterward. You hear me?"
Dan
"Yes, Ma'am!
Hannah
"This is long overdue! I can't wait to meet you!"
"I am so thankful that I accidentally texted your number to Thomas."
Thomas
"We are all thankful. And are lucky to have made a friend like you, MC."
"You help us get our Hannah back."
MC
"They just made the announcement to turn off our phones for take off."
"Talk to you soon!"
MC pressed the button putting her phone into airplane mode. It bothered her that Jessy didn't join in the conversation. She really worried about her. Before she would have been one of the first to reply. They had even once discussed MC coming to visit Duskwood after everything was resolved. But no one had foreseen how things were going to end. Jessy had been blindsided by the truth. If Richy hadn't sent her that video call, it is possible that Jessy never would have believed him. That she never would have accepted that he was behind it all. However, just accepting it wasn't enough. Jessy had to begin to heal soon. The raging wound she felt had to start to heal. Even if it only became a painful scab, it would be a start. She wouldn't survive in her current state.
"Oh, Jessy," MC sighed and tried to relax into her seat for the long flight ahead.
